I got in too late for a proper update last night, but I'll try to get you caught up now. I had a fun night.
After going to dinner with my mom, we came back and she hit the nickel slots in the casino. She's quite the high roller. Rather than watch her, I played some $50 BJ and broke even when all was said and done. I finally got bored in the casino and headed back to the poker room. I spotted my friend Jet (the guy who used to run the home game where I live) playing 25/50 NL. You have to understand - Jet wasn't a bad player by any means, but he certainly wasn't the strongest in the game either. Well, looks like he's improved a LOT. He was playing better, and I could see his whole mental everything was much better. He had a nice psycho image at the table, was super talkative, etc. Victor Ramdin was to his right, and earlier (for about 2 hours) Hachem was to his left. BTW - there is also a $50/$100 game where Antonio was sitting with a good $200k, if I had to guess. Phil Laak was playing in it, along with durrr (this kid is SICK! Really, really talented), H@lling@ll or whatever his name is, and some other guys I didn't recognize. Big game. Anyway, I'm standing there sweating Jet when I get tapped on the shoulder. It's Isabelle. "Mark, would you like to play in a $30 fun SNG with us?" she asks. Of course! This year (I named the event the "Second Annual Monique Michot Invitational" (that's Isabelle's mom)), we had Fabrice Soulier in the 1 seat, me in the 2 seat, Herbe the movie guy in he 3 seat, Isablle in the 4, Monique in the 5, two female French reporters in the 6 and 7, and then three Poker Stars people in Seats 8, 9 and 10. The reporter girls had NEVER played before, so it was pretty crazy trying to explain to them how to play. Fabrice was practicaly pulling his hair out. Naturally, they finished 1-2 in the event, exactly as I predicted when we started. Gutshots, 2 outers, dominated hands flopping monsters - it was really something. Live poker is totally rigged. It was kinda frustrating for Fabrice, Isabelle and I, but it was a good time. Oh, and we had a "French Only" rule at the table, but it wasn't strictly enforced. Afterwards, we had a drink in the lobby, and then I called it a night. It wasn't was fun as last year's crazy tourney (the one with Gavin Smith falling asleep at the table), but it was still a good time. Oh, and I think I need to learn French for next year. So that was last night. No poker for me today - going to do the pools/water slides/ocean, etc. thing today. |

Here is a pic of Jet that was in the Poker Stars Blog. He's the one that's not Barry Schulman and is about to get knocked out of the tourney with 99 vs. Barry's AA.

Yes, it certainly is. Don't even ask me how I got McEvoy's name in my head.

Crappy weather today.
I ended up playing some 5/10 NL in the poker room tonight. The play was slow and painful, of course, but I still enjoyed it. I ended up about $500 for the session. More interesting than the poker itself was who I ended up playing with: 1. MyNameIs(Something). Crap, I forget again. It's 3 letters, like Vox or something. Anyway, this dude definitely knows JD. He says they used to play like 8 tables together on Stars a few months ago. He's 18 and seems pretty solid. He plays a LOT online. I told him all about the forum, so hopefully he will stop in. 2. Pauly007 or something like that. This guy knows Boobie Lover very well from Bodog. I said I'd introduce them if I saw them at the same time... In other news, my mom turned $20 into $200 playing 1 cent slots tonight. heh. |

No. Vol, maybe. Crap - why can't I remember? You've played a LOT of hands with this guy.

I believe it.
He asked if you were a winner, to which I kinda of chuckled and said "Yes." Then he asked if you were a BIG winner, and I said, "I guess that depends on what you mean by 'big.'" He said he considers 100k a month to be a HUGE winner and 30k a month to be big. I told him that I believe you were indeed a "big" winner, but didn't know for sure. When he left the table for a minute, JD's guy (HOV) asked me if I thought he (pauly) really played 5/10 online. He's pretty LAGgy for a full table - I'll tell you that much. Hov plays a VERY different style - one that I prefer, actually. |

I just went down to the poker room to kill an hour and a half or so. The waiting list for the 5/10 NL game was like 25 deep, so I sat at the 1/2 table, which had open seating. The 10 seat was open, and I know the dealer from home, so I sat down so we could chat. He's going to be taking a job in Turks soon...
A little while after I started, Wes showed up and sat down too. We are such ballers. He stacked a guy with a well played AA vs QQ (all in on the turn), but then gave it back to him later in a coinflip (AK vs the guy's 88 - the 88 called Wes' big preflop reraise, btw). I basically sat there and folded for an hour and a half, but still managed to win one buy in. Almost time for the farewell cocktail party/dinner and then home tomorrow. |
