Three things:

1. You can't flop a set with Q8. You need a pair in your hand to flop a set.
2. You don't need to "see" any cards to win a tourney. .
3. Sounds like you played pretty well overall, but I agree, that A8 was probably a call. And the 98 may have been too, depending on stack sizes, blinds, etc. Overall though, welcome to world of live poker!
