You are just betting on Detroit to win, no point spread, but since you are getting the precieved better team/pitcher you have to lay some weight.
In this bet you would have to lay $140 to win $100. If the line were -1.65 you would have to lay $165 to win $100, etc..... If you wanted to bet on KC in this game the line would be +1.30, meaning if you lay $100 you stand to win $130. This adjustment in how much you lose if your favored team loses keeps people from just betting the Yankees every night and killing the books.
