Playing from the small blind in Limit

In pshabi's thread about PokerTracker stats it mentions that a good number for VPIP from the SB is 25-35%. Mine is more like 45%.

Lee Jones says as long as there is no raise ahead of you, you can complete your bet in the SB with any Ace, any King, any two suited cards, and any connectors down to 54o (he doesn't mention pairs specifically but I assume he includes them in "any reasonable hand"). I've already noticed that if I do this, and even if the flop hits me, I struggle to play the hand correctly. I'm first to act on all the rounds after the flop, and I constantly get shown better hands than mine at showdown.

What's a better guideline for the small blind? Should I play it more like I do when it's late and there are lots of callers? That would be...
-any pocket pair
-any suited A, K, or Q
-suited connectors down to 54s
-suited one-gap connectors down to 53s
-off-suit connectors from AKo to JTo
-off-suit "big" cards, like AQo, AJo, ATo, A9o, KJo, KTo, QTo.

Does this cut it down enough, or should I go further?
