Default Am I missing something?

Played a bit at lunch and in the $10 WSOP satty at UB I had AQ in late position, 2 limpers so I make it 6xBB to go, all fold except the first limper. Flops comes 75Q rainbow, I bet the pot, he calls, turn card's a 2, I've got him covered and put him all-in, he calls and flips over Q2o... so this guy calls a big preflop raise and pot size bet after the flop with Q2o?? Anyway, I said something in the chat like, "monster hand." Then one of the other players who wasn't even in the hand starts giving me shit about how I got played. So we went back and forth with me saying that if you're gonna call raises with that kind of junk you'll do nothing but bust out. He shot back about how you have to play those kind of hands to crack big PPs and hands like AK and AQ. Then he started in w/crap about burning my poker books, let's go play heads-up, blah, blah, blah. This guy went on to finish 2nd in the tourney (thankfully only 1st got the seat), and I tracked him down on UltimateBuddy and saw him sitting at some pretty high tables (well, compared to where I play... $2/$4 Limit vs. my $50 or $100 NL) and had quite a bit of money and looked to be doing well.

So, my question is... am I missing something? I just don't see how it makes any sense calling big preflop raises with a hand like Q2o. Maybe with higher end suited connectors, but not that kind of junk. I'm admittedly a very tight player, but I just fail to see the logic in calling raises with rags in the hopes that you'll get lucky and hit a hand that's easily masked. How could it possibly be profitable to risk most of your stack on a 3-outer? Or is this something you do in a tournament in hopes of amassing a big stick of chips early on?? Am I playing too tight in tourneys? Is this how those guys that have massive amounts of chips at the first break do it? Seems to me that maybe every once in a while you'd amass a bunch of chips when you got lucky but that much more often than not you'd be out of tourneys in a hurry. So, opinions?
