Default "Jackpot" Jay down 4 grand online

His latest mail bag is pretty boring, but the stats at the end tell the story.

Online results from last week: minus $500
Overall online results: minus $4,000
Career-to-date: plus $15,189

He also informs us

"By the way, to save Oliver and other like-minded big-game hunters valuable time, I usually play on Captain Cooks, a Prima site, under the name Jackpot Jay. Come and get me."

The real shame is that he's losing it all on a Prima site. I wonder who his affiliate was?

i saw that on iggy's blog, and it doesnt surprise me at all.

he just seems absolutely oblivious to what it takes to play poker well, and it doesnt surprise me that he is getting slaughtered online. if i recall correctly it seems as if his experience prior to this year was beating a dc newspaper game, which doesnt seem to be much in the scope of things.

he seems surprisingly uninformed, considering what his job is. i would have expected more, not just from espn, but from someone who is a professional journalist with significant credentials.

Default My choice

What would have been great is if they had the Sports Guy writing it -- his stuff is consistently hilarious, and from his occasional references, I gather he's not a bad poker player.

i would guess that he is decent, but no more, no less. the only references i have seen of his refer to running over 4/8 games in vegas, which isnt the most dificult thing to do. catch a good run of cards, and the loose-passive types will pay you all day long.

i am as big a sports guy fan as there is (although i would like to see him write more pre-ESPN style columns), i dont think that he is a great poker player. still, i would take him over crackpot jay. at least the sg would kno wwhat he was talking about.
