Duplicate Poker
Anyone hear anything about this / have opinions on it / try it out?
For those that dont know about it , its a poker game where you are playing against at least 1 other table of players. Every player at each table gets dealt the same cards as the player at other tables in their corresponding seat (for instance table one seat 1 gets dealt KJ, thus each seat 1 at every table gets dealt KJ) etc etc. Each flop at every table is the same and each turn and river is as well The hand then plays out and your Net Total Dollars is recorded (i/e you win 100 dollars in hand one so your net is 100, then you lose 20 in hand two, now its 80 etc). Each hand you start with the same number of chips (say 10,000) regardless of your last hand. Im not positive on how eliminations work, but I believe they occur when a player has - 3x the buy in, in net dollars (- 30,000 in this case) or different levels may be set and given time increments (i.e after 40 min X number of players r cut) The intent is to take the luck out of poker, since all players you are playing against will be involved in the exact same decisions you will against the same cards. For instance if you get coolered KK vs AA its probably not a big deal bc your opponents will be in this same cooler... but if you know to VB the river on a questionable board and your opponents do not you can net more chips. Although you are playing with the ppl at your table, you are competing against others at other tables in your seat, not players at your table (although they do matter bc how good or bad they are influences you getting called or them folding to your bets etc) Love to hears peoples thoughts on this

Sounds a lot like Duplicate Bridge... (Does anyone here play bridge?)
Can you play this anywhere online / Casinos? I haven't heard of it. (But yeah I think it sounds cool) |

I read about it. I think this is a weak attempt to come up with a legal form of online poker. Since you eliminate the chance (you are playing against the people in the same seat as you at different tables - and you are all playing the exact same cards), you make poker a skill game.
But that's stupid. If I get it all in with AA preflop and you fold yours, and I end up losing when 22 flops a set and you stay even, that doesn't make you the better player. Or what if I get it all in with KK and my opponent calls with AA while your opponent folds? I get stacked and you win a small pot. That also doesn't make you a better player than me. Also, the game will either have to run increadibly slowly (hand for hand and more likely street for street), or you will have a major security risk. Even if you play street for street, you risk people at different tables sharing their hole cards. I think it's a bad idea. It might make for an interesting experiment once or twice, but I don't think it would be very fun or very profitable. |
