i know a few people were buying/ordering it, and just wondering now that its been a while -- what are your views on the book? as good as the first? better/worse? thinking about picking up some more literature and want to choose between harrington's book and SS2.

I have both.
First, let me say that they are keepers. I think you will eventually need both books, so just think about what you want to reference / learn at this point, and choose from there. Second, here are my individual reviews for you: Harrington's Book is great. Lots and LOTS of questions which illustrate his poker content (sometimes too many!) and occasional real world hand examples. Sadly though, I haven't gotten the opportunity to play in as many MTTs as I would like - so I can't really tell you whether it has definitively helped my MTT game. (I did place 3rd in the last TPFI!!) I would imagine that I need to play more MTTs and read the examples over and over to fully understand his content. It's well written, broken down into useful chapters / sub-chapters, and if you get it, you will not be disappointed. Upon entry into his "pope-dom," Benedict should replace the Christian Catechism with Doyle's SS2. This book should be considered a poker-player's bible. To be honest, I have only read 3 sections of this beast: Jennifer Harmon's section on LHE (VERY good), Doyle's section on NLHE (also, very good), and Mike Caro's 40-page schpiel on Do's and Don'ts (useful for live games). At this point, I'm not too interested in the other material: Triple Draw, PL Omaha, O8, Stud, Stud8, etc - but those chapters seem very comprehensive. My ONE gripe about SS2 is that I feel like it's written for high limits. I could be totally wrong, but I don't think Doyle takes into consideration the stupid plays made at $100 and $200NL tables, ya know? (Anyone else feel that SS2 is geared for higher limits?) I think the Q for you to make is an easy one: Do you want to learn more about tournaments or cash games? Once you decide, you'll basically know what book you need. Let me know if you wanna know anything else about either one.

sounds like i should probably invest in both, but since i'm looking to improve my tournament play i'll take a look at harringtons book first.

Probably a good idea. Don't make the mistake I did: buy the book, learn about tournament play, and then NOT utilize it.
