At what point....
Do you make a move??
I mean you sit down and get dealt absolute junk for the first 40 minutes at an online table. Hands that aren't worth a call, and the hands you try to limp with, there's a big raise. When do you make the big bluff and push all in?? Or is it best to just wait it out and let the blinds chew up your hand (which seems to happen to me an awful lot lately) I've been thinking long and hard abou this one and nothing seems to be too clear!!! |

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but in tourney play, if you don't have 10 big blinds in your stack, it's all-in or fold.

I hate that situation too, especially in cash games, but I think leaving is the best idea. Pshabi, where did you come up with the 10 blinds idea you have, I've never heard that before.

I've never heard that either, but it sounds reasonable to me. I was talking about SNG's too....sorry should have mentioned that. Real good ideas though, less than 10x the big blind....wait for a monster or all in with something decent on a blind.....

that is a pretty common tournament strategy... if u r gunna raise the normal 3x bb amount are u really gunna fold later with 1/3 of your stack already in? Therefore you should just push it all in preflop

The 10x rule is fairly common for tourney play. It doesn't mean all in on the BB though. All it means is that when you stack gets down to < 10x the BB, you shouldn't be calling or raising anymore - you're either folding or pushing all in.
Of course this will be most successful when no one is in the pot ahead of you (if someone raises firat and you reraise all in, they will likely have to call because of the pot odds). The main point here is to all but eliminate calling and instead of making a standard 3x BB raise (or whatever), just push in. |

As for cash games, btw.... just reload, or move to a different table if you want. Wait as long as it takes.

See my post above, but remember, it's a move to steal blinds and increase your stack as much as it is an attempt to double up.

I learned it here actually.
The idea is, you want to have enough of a stack so you can push in from late position and take the blinds down. If you wait til your stack is too small, larger stacks are correct to call you with any two cards a lot of the time. And if you only have 3 blinds and get a monster, you only have 6 if you doble up,. Again, you are looking to push in enough that they can't call with mediocre holdings. Taking down the blinds a couple times here can get you back into playing shape later in a tourney. I play standard until my stack is under 10 blinds. Then it's push or fold. I've heard Zy comment on it before and I'm sure there are some other NLHE guys who may be able to elaborate or correct me here. Edit: And Zy beat me to it.
