Today's Contest...
I'm going to ask a simple poker question in this thread sometime today. The first person to post the correct answer will win. Simple enough?

And yes, there will be a cash prize.

Today's "money" question is going to have to do with counting outs. It will not be posted for at least a few hours (to give people a chance to see this).
Here's a warmup question, just for fun. No money prize here, just bragging rights: Exactly how many different combinations of turn/river cards are there in a Heads Up situation in Hold'Em? In other words, if someone needs to hit perfect-perfect runner-runner to make a straight flush (for example), what are their chances? |

990 possible turns/rivers
.1% to make the runner runner SF or 989:1

It would be 1/47 * 1/46 would it not?
The chances of hitting runner-runner would be 1/47*46/2, or 1/1,081? I used 47 and 46 since opponents 2 cards are unknown.

if...
...someone says something like "well, on 'river' stars it happens once out of every two or three hands" or "well, on Party Poker its about 20%" might i suggest a 30 minute ban from the forum??

Blibbity's answer and explanation is correct.
And I like bdawg's suggestion too! |

If a correct answer to the $ Question is posted (and not edited) in LESS than 5 minutes from the time I post the question, the winner will get $20.
If it takes 5 minutes or more for the correct answer to be posted, the winner will receive $10. Either way, I'll transfer the money to your account. The official question will be posted sometime tonight between 8 PM and 12 AM ET. I'll post a smaller time range later. I hope you know your outs! |
