Time for a change
Can anyone recommend some others sites besides PokerStars that have a wide selection of Sit n Go's to play in? God knows I can't put up with the bullshit that goes down daily at PokerStars anymore and I figure it is time to move on before I piss away my bankroll due to tilt.
Sites I am considering Royal Vegas - Everything about this site blows, from the software to the players. They have decent Sit n Go options that I have beat before which is the only reason I am considering them.

If you can't beat a SNG (over a decent enough sample size) then perhaps you are at the wrong level?
The site won't change the beats... Seriously. it won't. There's nothing wrong with dropping a level. You can change sites if you want, but a Random card is Still a random card no matter what site you are on. Wouldn't you be even the least bit worried if the best hand ALWAYS held up?

Just saw your bad-beat... Jacks hand.
That sucks... I think you raised too much preflop, but that's just me. What I would suggest to you, is to take $110 and leave it on Stars... Take everything else out... Now with that $110 you leave on Stars, Transfer it to Chi... errr ummm.... I mean use it to play 20 $5.50 SNGs in a row.... No cheating... Don't play a MTT, don't play a ring game... Strictly 20 SNGS. Get a nice pen and paper... I prefer a blue pen with white paper, but feel free to use whatever combination of colours you would like.... Then record the Results of all 20 SNGs. Take a look back and see how you did once you are finished. This works on other sites too... And for any amount. Seriously, give it a try. Then let us know how you did.

Haha, I was just thinking about it, it would be kind of weird. But it has really just gotten to the point with PokerStars, that it seems like putting your money in with the best hand (not even just the better part of a coinflip) is -EV. The best hand doesn't seem to win the % of the time it is supposed too.

I think what happens (happened to me all day yesterday) is you will get on runs where the best hand when the money goes in is not the best hand at the end. But, like Raymer has said, you have to look at your decisions, if you make the right decisions that's all you can do after that it's up to the way the cards fall and you can't control that. Yesterday I lost almost 15% of my roll and most of it (not all) was when I made the right decision but the cards didn't fall my way. It's tough and you start to think that getting in with the best hand is not the way to play... but it is. Bad beats sting a lot more than the flip side of winning pots you are supposed to win, that's just natural. So, of course, you're going to remember those bad beats and have thoughts of what might have been. But, what you have to remember is that making the right decisions will always be +EV over the long haul. What you should also remember is that bad beats happen only to good players because they're not relying on luck. Let the bad players have to rely on luck, eventually their luck will run out. A swing like the one I took yesterday is difficult to handle, but I know that over the long run I will get that part of my bankroll back and that it will continue to grow.
Having said all that, I think it would be good for you to take a little break (read some of the good poker books out there) and perhaps try another site... there's a lot of psychology involved in this game and if those things help you have a more positive attitude about your game then they can only help. Keep you chin up buddy!!

I agree Full tilt can be extremly tight. all depends on what limits you feel like playing. The limits really affect the play on full tilt

Please tell me we're not saying that Full Tilt is better because it's "tighter."

Try Full Tilt Poker. That is what I play on. I think that it is nicer than poker stars. They have better sit n gos and tournaments. Also it is better set up.

Hawt, I've been thinking about this and I wonder if it would be better if you took a break from poker? Still come to the freerolls, but for ring games and other tournaments, maybe you should take a few days off.
The reason I'm saying this is I can relate to how you feel right now. When I first started playing for money I couldn't stand losing and so when I lost, my first thought was I have to win that money back. Then I started to get pissed off by the bad beats and then getting more aggressive to get the money back. I pretty much tilted and lost all my money. Maybe your situation isn't exactly the same, but it's similar. And after losing my money, I took a break and thought about my game. It wasn't until that I realized that pretty much from the begining I had been playing on tilt. So I've made a new deposit and I'm doing fairly well now. I had a period of where I was losing and lost about half my bankroll, but I didn't let it affect me, I kept playing my game of poker. Now, I'm back on a winning streak and I've finally got more money in my account than I started with. (Now hopefully I didn't jinx myself ) Anyway, I thought it was an idea that could help. |

actully
actully what you just explained happens to alot of people including myself. Its very common and the mentality of it sounds stupid but when you are at the table you dont think it through and afterwards when you actully think about it you are like "wow that was dumb". I'am on a very very long break myself and dont know if I will ever play again, one of the reasons I dont post much anymore is because im not playing so no reason to post. Im actully playing Magic again and got back with some guys on magic the gathering online that I havent talked to in over a year. Maybe one day I will play poker but it got to the point where I couldnt stand playing anymore. Like someone else said hearing all the sucess stories on here then watching my bankroll go lower and lower didnt help, was I jealous....YEP. Did I wish you all would start losing? of course not but it really was depressing. I agree take a break and re-read your poker books, watch some games online or whatever and rethink what you want from poker. I mean do you want to just play, because if you just want to play you should just sit at lowest limits possible or lowest sit and go's or whatever and play for pure enjoyment of the game. If you want to make money then you really have to sit down and think if you have the mental stability for it. I dont, thats why im not playing, one day I might but for now if I play its just like walking down the street handing out $20's to everyone I see. |

Thanks for all the advice guys, I really can relate to n1kitas and brians situation, once I lost a bunch of money I went to a cash game to try and get it back. We all know how those end for me! Luckily I still have a decent roll (In comparison to what I started with) so I guess Christmas Break is as good as any to take a poker break as well.
I don't know if I will be at the freeroll tonight, I might be driving back to Orlando.
