Poker Books???
I'm looking at buying a decent poker book. I was thinking about SuperSystem, but just wanted some input as to what other books you guys recommend. I play mostly tournament style NL.
Also, is there a site online that sells books at a good price? Or am I just as well off to go to the book store.. Help is appreciated, Adam |

Do a search. There are a number of quality threads here about poker books.
For tourneys though, nothing beats the Harrington books: |

Sun Tzu and the art of Tournament Poker is a GREAT tournament book
BUT BUT BUT this book will not give you any strategy at all on how to play no hand by hand assesments like the harrington books. No real situations but what it does give is tips on keeping your cool. Attacking and defending with your chips. It's not the greatest poker book but if your a history buff and have read Sun TZU ( I have read the stand alone Art of War book) It's amazing to see how a lot of sun tzu's strategys can be viable in the poker world. See I feel I have a good grasp on the technical math part of poker (good not great) I have more problems with controling my emotions online. I have found that books like The Tao of poker The Zen of poker Sun Tzu are the books for me because the remind me to keep cool If you want books that teach you fundamentals and advanced techniques you should buy Sklansky and Supersystem. I read Supersystem 2 and did not like it at all except for the Triple Draw Section I have not read a sklansky book I did not like but you have to sit through a lot of numbers and such. At one time I did not read poker books but Lately I have read a ton of them. If you have any questions i have read the following books. Supersystem, Supersystem 2, Wisdom of a Champion, Bad Beats and Lucky Draws, Play poker like a champion, Beyond tells, Mike caro's Book of tells, The Psychology of Poker, The Theory of poker, Hold em for Advanced Players, Small Stakes holdem for advanced players, How to make 1,000,000 on gambling, Poker for Dummies, Makings of a Poker Player, Tao of poker, Zen of poker, Sun Tzu and art of war for tournament players, I like the poker section in Nick the Greeks book (very old), Harrington on hold em (only Vol 1). Small stakes holdem, and a few others I cannot remember. You can't read a book and become a great player But if you can take ONE good thing from each book and apply it to yourself it should help. I'm not a super player but I have my moments. |

The Harrington on Hold 'em series will pay for themselves multiple times over within 2 months of finishing them. I can't say that about any other book. They are that good.
