not a good sign...
It cant be good that eurobet just cancelled all action with US customers and is sending them their money back within a week.
Is Eurobet under more pressure than the other sites like Stars and Party to get rid of their US customers? Is this a sign that all sites may soon have to get rid of action with US customers? |

Any site that takes sports bets should be very carefull with US customers. Poker only sites will not have much of a problem.

Eurobet is mainly a European sportsbook. When they were open to US customers, they did not allow US customers to place sports bets. The only function for US customers that was allowed was poker, and that was only a small portion of their business. They probably figured it was too big of a hassle to put up with.
It would seem dumb for the major sites (Party, Stars, etc.) to all of a sudden stop accepting US customers since we consist from anywhere of 50-80% of their business. |

It's not just dumb - it's impossible.
People are WAY overreacting about what passed in the House last week. That's just one small step in making a bill a law, and even if it does pass (in the future), all that is for is not allowing banks amd credit card companies to process payments to online gambling sites... Eurobet simply doesn't want to deal with the hassle associated with taking sports bets from U.S. customers - it's not worth the risk to them. |

Will the neteller-> bank route still be open then?

I would guess that it still would since Neteller has legitimate business outside of gambling. Although, I very well could be wrong.

The transfer from your bank account into Neteller should still be allowed.* Neteller is like Paypal, and it's used for other things outside of poker money transfers.
Yea yea, it's one thing to stop credit card money deposits, but I really don't see stopping a three-way transaction. Neteller is, after all, overseas. Once that money goes from your bank to Neteller, you sent it overseas. Is the US gvmt going to stop transactions that happen after that point? I don't think they can. Besides, there is a long road ahead of this bill before we have to start worrying about anything.** *I say should be allowed because any bill that would prohibit the use of Neteller is a bill waiting to be defeated by the "overbroad" / "overreaching" constitutional law argument. **Not that there is necessarily anything to worry about.

Yea, I kinda thought so to since we had been down this road before, unfortunatly it has made the Senate Calander, and while it will meet more opposition there than in the House it will still pass. The White House criminal, errr GW, has already said he will sign it as soon as it hits his desk.
I really thought we had another year or two before it was time to hit the panic button, may be too late already. The Eurobet/US shutdown has more to do with the detainment of the BetOnSports people by the DOJ than the HR4411 bill.

<Takes foot out of mouth>
Just as I was typing the previous reply look what shows up in my e-mail client, a bit of good news for a change:
Thu Jul 20, 2006 12:14 PM ET WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A bill to ban Internet gambling is facing some opposition in the U.S. Senate and will not come up for a vote before the chamber takes its August recess, an aide to the U.S. Senate majority leader said on Thursday. Backers of the legislation had hoped to push it through the Senate quickly this month following the arrest in the United States of David Carruthers, the chief executive of BETonSPORTS <BSS.L>, on charges of racketeering and conspiracy. Carruthers is scheduled to appear at a hearing in U.S. district court in Fort Worth, Texas, on Friday to determine if he must remain in jail until his trial. However, an aide to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said that lawmakers were still working on the bill and would not be able to hold a floor vote before the Senate recesses for its August vacation.
