Shabi in Vegas
Hey guys,
Found a hotel computer that charges .69/minute of internet time. Figured I drop in and say hi. It was a long day of travel yesterday. I went to bed about 2AM the night before and left my place at 4:30 AM for a 6:30 AM flight. Got here about noon LV time yesterday. We checked in and got situated. I headed on down to the Wynn about 7PM. Only 1 table of 8/16, so I sat in a 4/8 game for a little bit. About 15 minutes later, the 8/16 game opened up and I moved there. I must say, I was pretty disappointed in the game. Completely rockish, with like 1-2 dead money players. I'm not saying these were great players, but they weren't the donks I was hoping for. I actually caught some good cards, but it usually went like this. KK pocket. Raised to me in the SB, I 3-bet, old lady calls with JJ. Flop comes QJ5 and I get hammered. I lost 3 big pots to smaller pocket pairs hitting a set. Luckily I sucked out on QQ when he flopped Q88 and I had KK to hit my King on the river. I was getting hammered all night, but was fortunate enough to see the table drop to 6-7 handed for about 90 minutes. I ended up scratching some of it back, but still ended up down 250 in about 5-6 hours. I only played til 1AM because I had been going on no sleep. I may be looking elsewhere for my next game, because it was just too tight. I saw the blinds chop at least once every two orbits at a 10-handed table. That said, the Wynn is spectacular. I really expected to see a bigger room though. It is quite small. But it is top-notch; classy all around. Very courteous staff, great dealers, and the cocktail girls got around often enough. I'm going out for my interview in about 2 hours, so wish me luck. I've got a date with the wife, but I may sneak out to the Bellagio afterward to try the 8/16 game there. I do have to get up at 9am, because that's as early as you can register for the Wynn 12:00 $500 tourney. I got my stake, so I'll be playing in that. It should be an all day thing and I'll take notes. Will definitely be sporting my TP hat. I'll be back with more updates in this thread. Hopefully, a little more interesting. Time for lunch. See ya.

Okay, guess it's my duty to write down some trip details.
1) I'm majorly disappointed that I didn't meet up w/ 2Tone. Should've attempted to coordinate things I guess. 2) During my stay, I played the 4/8 game at the Wynn, but mostly 8/16 there. I killed the 4/8 game. I had old men calling my preflop raise as I hit trip aces. I'd get called down to the river and then get mysteriously raised on the river to call and see a busted straight draw, lol. The 8/16 game was on the tighter side of things, but as I said earlier, generally between the hours of 2 and 6 am, the game would get down to 5-6 handed. That definitely worked to my advantage. However, the entire stay I was absolutely card dead. In fact, the 10-2o is now named "The Wynn" because I saw that hand at least twice an orbit for fucking days straight. I ended up down about 10-15 bets for the entire trip. Somewhat disappointing. 3) The $500 Wynn tourney was a bust. I went out 40/66 or something weak. Basically, I would raise AJ in MP, get a late position caller, miss the flop, my pot-size continuation bet was ALWAYS called, and I would check/fold the turn. 1h 45m later and I'm busto. Lots of fun, but just no momentum. Observations: 1) The Wynn cocktail waitresses are fucking supermodels. All 9s and 10s. Unbelievable. 2) The Wynn staff was unbelievable. So professional and courteous. I just flirted with the manager for a few minutes every day and she generously comped me a buffet dinner for two. The buffet was fucking amazing. 3) I despise live cash games. 4-tabling 6-max has definitely spoiled me because 1-tabling live and being card dead bugged the shit out of me. Live tournies = awesome, but online cash games have ruined live games for me 4) Even if I get a decent job offer, I just don't think I'd want to live in Vegas. 5) Wifey bailed me out on the river w/ a trip saving $250 cash on a nickel slot. Break even baby! Kind of a lame report and a lot of funny details are left out, but I really need to play some party hands tonight and I'm over it. Peace y'all.

I have been wondering about this point for a while. I figured any live game that you take seriously (as opposed to the home game drunk donk-fest) must take MAJOR adjustment coming from a multi-table online comfort zone, and I wonder if I have lost the ability to adjust, or maybe the desire. Sitting around in your underwear multi-tabling online in the middle of the night has its advantages. Like not paying for a babysitter. And farting without shame.
Ok, maybe that was too much info....sorry. |

Plus, you can't get stoned sitting at a casino table. Drunk as a skunk, yes, but some prefer the greenery.
Really, when you've folded 30 hands in a row online 4-tabling, that's what 5 minutes? Now think of an hour at one table and it's just too painful. I looked like the tightest player in Vegas and it sucked.

PShabi...I noticed before you had a chance to interview for a coaching job in your area. What was this interview for if you don't mind me asking?
And I think I'm there with you...living in Vegas would be TOUGH! After 3 or 4 days I'm always ready to head home (of course just as I get on the plane out I start planning for the next trip). |
