Default I want to give you guys some free money... (brainstorming)

Why? Cause I'm crazy like that and I think it will be fun.

After the success of yesterday's multi-forum tourney, I was thinking we need to have another TP only tourney. I know we've mentioned the 24th as a possible date for the next TPFI, but I was thinking maybe this idea could be more fun to do instead...

What if, instead of an Invitational tourney for just the regular posters around here, it was an OPEN tourney, and what if instead of just ONE tourney, it was a series of tourneys? I realize that by opening up the field, it's much more likely that an "outsider" will win, but it would help get our name out there and would hopefully draw some new contributing members to the forum. I really like our little group, but I'd like to see it grow too, as I'm sure all of you would...

As for the multiple-tournaments thing, we all know there is short term luck in poker, and having multiple events would help make up for that. I realize most people won't be able to make ALL the tourneys, so what I'm thinking is we could vary the start times, and only your best 3 finished out of the 5 tourneys would count, for example. That way, you can miss 2 of the events and still qualify for the added prize money.

I know I'm rambling here and doing a lousy job of explaining what I have in mind. Maybe a quick example would be more clear (everything below is subject to change):

Let's say we have 5 tourneys over the next few weeks... Each would be a $10+1 multi at Poker Stars. They would be OPEN tournaments, but would be password protected, with the password posted here within 24 hours of the tourney start time.

In ADDITION to the standard payouts from Stars, I would kick in some money, say $50, to the person who performs the best throughout the series. To make this fair for people who can't make every tourney, we would throw away everyone's lowest 2 scores and only count their best 3. Points would be determined based on final standings, but probably weighted somehow toward the top 3 spots. Then, after all 5 tourneys are over, we could add up all the points, and viola - we've got our $50 winner.

If people can only make one tourney to play in, no worries - it's just like any other (you won't win the bonus money, but so what? It will still be fun). If you can make all 5, great, you'll probably have a better chance of logging 3 nice finishes and racking up a lot of points... But since only 3 scores will be used, in theory, someone who only plays in TWO of the tourneys could win the series if they finish well enough.

How will the points work? Here's what I'm thinking...

Points will be awarded based on the number of participants in each event, with the top 3 spots getting "double" points (you'll see). If we have 15 players, we would award the points as follows:
1 - 30 points
2 - 28 points
3 - 26 points
4 - 12
5 - 11
6 - 10
7 - 9
8 - 8
9 - 7
10 - 6
11 - 5
12 - 4
13 - 3
14 - 2
15 - 1

Maybe that's good, maybe it sucks, I don't just... It's just a starting point. We could forget about the whole double thing for the top 3, or we could come up with a better system entirely.

Forgetting the details for now, what do you guys think about this idea? Think it would be fun? Interested?

Well, how about taking top 9 overall, by average finish, and then having a final sitngo to determine who wins the extra $50?

I'm definitely interested. I read a while back about a smaller site that could/would host leagues like this and do all of the adminstrative shit for you.

I can't remember but I'll look.

Anyway, I'm in.

Kind of like the Poker Superstars Invitational II.

I think you should do six tourneys, give the pts like you have stated... then at the end of the 6 tourneys, the top 9 point getters could play a 1 table SNG for a poker book and some added money or something.

Also

they are having a final tourney soon for everyone who cashed in one of the tourneys so that could always work too.

That's not a bad idea, everyone that cashed in at least 1 tourney could get to go to the final. You know what else isn't a bad idea? Make it an O8 league .

Sounds fun. In the past I suggested something along the lines of a heads-up tournament / league ... but, for the purposes of trash talking + drama, it would only be fun if it was limited to actual TP members.

I hope that whatever you come up with ... it's not 3 wks or more in-between each tournament.

That's actually the whole reason I came up with this. The hardest part of the whole TPFI thing is the scheduling, and it's impossible to accomodate everyone. So for this, with only your best 3 finished counting (for example), it would be ok if people missed one or two or even 3 or 4 of the events.

I'm picturing the whole thing taking about 2 weeks, beginning to end.

Hmmmmm, let me think about it. (0 seconds later) Nah.

But............. I did spend some time today doing something cool for the forum. I think you'll like it. It will be a while before anyone has any idea what I'm talking abuot, but take my word for it. It's all good.

I know, I know. I'm such a man of mystery.

Sounds like fun to me. It will be good to get the name out which i think would help things around here, however it would be fun just between current members. Open seems the way to go just to make sure we get enough people, and count me in. I like the sound of 2 weeks too, quicker the better.
