I had honestly thought about that before, and I was playing under the impression I was PROBABLY gonna get the time off.
Had I won and after the fact found out I couldn't go it would have went like this:
I could have got one week unpaid off for personal reasons I'm sure, so I hope like hell I play day 1C or 1D which would be Sunday or Monday, then my second day would be Wednesday and third day Friday. I am still in the "unpaid" week off and if I'm still in the tourney I believe I'm in the money at that point as we are down to 600 players. Now I can still play Saturday (down to 300 players) and Sunday (down to 150 players).
Now, if I bust on Sunday I am spending some of the money I won on a red-eye back to Pittsburgh and get to the office in a really bad/tired mood Monday, but life goes on as normal.
IF I am still in the game after Sunday a hard decision needs made, I call the boss and explain the situation and hope he understands, otherwise it is time for that hard decision. I am a top salesman for the company and have a very good resume, MANY companies are looking for top notch salesmen, I am CERTAIN I can find a job somehwere and may have to go that route considering there are only 150 players left, what would you do here?
If I bust on Monday, the day they play down 60 that is the then current worst case scenario. If I survive till the final table I am not going back to that job anyway.
I guess I had a plan just in case, but it's all for nothing now as I doubt I even play in a satty since I have already been told no. It's easier to ask forgivness than permission.
