I learned it here actually.

The idea is, you want to have enough of a stack so you can push in from late position and take the blinds down. If you wait til your stack is too small, larger stacks are correct to call you with any two cards a lot of the time. And if you only have 3 blinds and get a monster, you only have 6 if you doble up,.

Again, you are looking to push in enough that they can't call with mediocre holdings. Taking down the blinds a couple times here can get you back into playing shape later in a tourney.

I play standard until my stack is under 10 blinds. Then it's push or fold.

I've heard Zy comment on it before and I'm sure there are some other NLHE guys who may be able to elaborate or correct me here.
