Poker can be tremendously frustrating. There’s often no reward in the short term for making the right decision – in fact, sometimes doing so can be very expensive. Winning takes luck and skill – if you are without either one in any given session, you’ll be punished. Then, on top of that, you need excellent money management skills and self-discipline to handle winning – or losing – large sums on money.
Plus, it can be highly addictive, especially online. You can stay out of a card room, but you can’t stay off a computer, so the temptation is always there, unless you take specific steps to eliminate it (closing accounts, etc).
I have a great deal of respect for the few who are able to succeed in the long term, and empathy for the many more who can not.
I’m getting murdered trying to clear the latest Party bonus, and have decided to take a short break myself. I’ll be back for the TP freeroll on the 20th, and perhaps will see you there.
