got in some trouble today

Hi there, 1st post. This looks like a great site.

Here's my story. I had been a small time party poker player, focusing on mostly $5 NL single table tourneys. Today in between hands, I made the mistake of clicking on the blackjack tab. Long story short, I lost $1500 in frenzied action. I keep trying to double up and kept getting killed. Had to come clean with my wife today - surprisinly she took it well. In any event, I enjoy PP but need to keep my degenerate gambling side in check. Not sure if I'll be able to do that.

Has anyone else had a similar experience. Up to today, I had lost around $200, usually getting a couple weeks out of a $50 deposit.

Take care,

Chris

I previously had some gambling issues right after college which was nearly 20 years ago. Sports betting with a bookie - a number of guys at my office got sucked in. I lost about $5000 and making matters worse was that I had just gotten married and we had purchased our first home. My wife and I didn't have much cash then and I took a second job for a few months to pay things off. After that I cooled off and haven't bet sports with a bookie since. Although I am in a healthy dose of low stakes office pools, fantasy football leagues, etc. I also have shied away from casinos since I know I have a latent issue. Now that I have recently discover on-line gambling, I need to focus again on staying under control. Having done it before should give me some confidence. Although I must say that today scared the crap out of me. The only reason I stopped was that I overdrew my checking account and couldn't make another deposit. I was crazed. Now a hard lesson was hopefully learned-I have a lot to lose (3 kids 11,9 and 6) and house, etc.

I actually really enjoy texas hold em' and don't really need to play for high stakes. Hopefully this was a wake call for me and I post some sucess stories in the future.

Yeah, just keep your kids in mind and watch what you do... the internet has certainly made gambling easier than it ever was before.

Quite frankly, I think you should never even open a poker site or any online casino or sportsbook ever again. You clearly have a problem, and I fear that the temptation for you would be too great and you could get yourself in a lot of trouble.

I've bought in for $50 twice on party poker. I did decent, but both times I lost the majority of my money playing blackjack. I have very bad self discipine problems and the only advice I can give you is to switch to pokerstars because they don't have blackjack.

Zybomb 12-05-05 07:28 PM

We already have Brian for that

BrianSwa 12-05-05 07:34 PM

yep

really nothing I can say about that, yep.

you know you could always just delete the blackjack images so you won't be tempted...

omahilo 12-05-05 07:54 PM

he knows blackjack is on the site so blocking the images dont do him no good.

Stars is his best bet.

You can delete the casino folder from your Party Poker files. Of course nothing stops you from clicking that link and downloading it again, but it's a start.
