Harrah’s launches WSOP credit card

Details on how exactly poker rewards would work are non existent.

MNBA weren’t able to tell me anything. I have an email into Harrah’s asking for more details.

If spending 25k a year on my card would get me a free entry into the $1k buy-in event, that would be very cool, and I’d do it. Otherwise, if it just tied to Harrah’s standard total rewards program (hotels and meals) or other WSOP merchandise, I’m better off getting frequent flier miles and using them to fly to Vegas.

Looks to me like they may have rolled this out a bit prematurely. I like the idea - a lot - but they need to make the fine print available before I'm signing up... that's for sure.

It does specifically mention "buy-ins" as potential rewards though.

Where did you hear about this?

Agreed

I clicked on a banner ad to get to the page, and the card is also listed on , which says it will be redeemable for buy-ins.

But Tp, you are right about rolling this out a little early. Two different MBNA employees provided zero additional info. Finally, I asked to speak to a manager, and the rep put me on hold and then told me the manager suggested I call "hurrah's" for all the details.

We'll see. I’d be great if charging my groceries, etc. all could get me a seat at a WSOP event. If it does turn out to be a good deal, they'll probably have a refer-a-friend bonus as well ...

If this helps:

-Earn 1 Point for every $1 in purchases§
-Redeem for WSOP Buy-ins including the Texas Hold'em World Championship
-Air Travel with no blackout dates, brand name merchandise
-Unlimited Cash Back
-No annual fee

ChipFish 10-05-05 08:15 AM

I would imagine you would need at the very least, $1 Million in purchases to get the $10,000 buy-in.... Come to think of it, I would say you would need at least $1 Million in purchases to get a $1,000 buy-in.

Might be worth a look though.
Although I am sure with my luck, this will NOT be available in Canada. :(

ChipFish 10-05-05 08:22 AM

Found it....

That's a few free entrys over a lifetime if you planned your spending correctly.
Wow!

ChipFish 10-05-05 08:23 AM

And of course.....
Must be a U.S. Citizen...
Booo!!!!

PShabi 10-05-05 09:34 AM

A few? I don't think I'll charge $3 million worth of shit to a credit card in this lifetime and the next combined.

Maybe a couple of the $500 buy-in tourneys though.

ChipFish 10-05-05 10:48 AM

You'd be surprised what you can charge to a CC and as long as you pay it off, are not charged interest on.

Although, I just did a quick estimate and would like to change " a few" to "one".

Talking Poker 10-05-05 01:54 PM

Assuming one point earned per dollar spent, this is a reasonable offer, but not a "good" one. Financially, you'd be better off going with the AMEX rewards (where you can get all sorts of stuff at a better value than this) or most gas company credit cards for that matter (everyone buys gas anyway).

Of course, these rewards are way COOLER - that's worth something.

PShabi 10-05-05 05:57 PM

It's interesting to say the least.

If they gave you points for balance transfers, I could stake the whole fucking website!!!!!!!

From Harrah's customer support ...

thank you for your interest in the world series of poker and the official world series of Poker credit card.

Every dollar you spend on the card earns you one rewards point which can be redeemed for WSOP merchandise, buy-ins to WSOP circuit events or the main event in Las Vegas, and now even special tutorial/playing sessions against pros like Chris Moneymaker and Johnny Chan.

The rewards start at 2,500 points for merchandise and go up from there. The Moneymaker seminar is 80,000 points. For specific information on redemption options, contact MBNA - 800-932-2775.

Harrah's Sports & Entertainment

Personally, I can't imagine choosing the Moneymaker seminar for 80k when I could get into a 1k bracelet event for 126, but there you have it.

Talking Poker 10-11-05 12:42 PM

Again, assuming you earn one point per dollar spent, I don't think these rewards are in line with most other credit cards... most of them translate to 1 cent per point and this is less.

omahilo 10-11-05 01:21 PM

Hmm... Chan or Moneymaker, thats a tough decision.

PS: Is the Chan session the same # of pts as Moneymaker?

PSPS: I think this might be both Moneymaker and Chan, if it is one or the other, def. would pick Chan.

Reel Deal 10-11-05 01:40 PM

Just did the math... would take me about 3 years to clear that. Think I'll just stick to my Delta AmEx card and get some free flights.
