Your best poker excuse

In a nutshell.....

Don't have a computer at home. Play online at the office (yes, I know, major no no, it's okay in my line of work.) So, I play while working and when I'm down at the job.

However, I occasionally can't wait to play so I go back to the office after hours at night (I know, I know, get a life).

At this time, my wife is getting a little annoyed by this (she'd never leave me so don't take that into consideration).

What I'm asking for is a good excuse to get me outta the house tonight so I can come play poker. Can't tell the truth, because tomorrow night, I'm going to play poker and I need that excuse for then. So, what's your best lie?

Thinking about "doing some Christmas shopping early."

Bring home cash

This is one category in which B&M is way superior to online. Walking in the door, even a few hours late, is made much easier if you do so with a nice wad of cash and can peel off some for her. Just consider it a tax on your winnings.

Late training session at work always seems to work for me. Or have you tried late meeting at work or a work Christmas party perhaps. Or how about "Honey, I love you, but I'd rather play poker"?

ChipFish 11-08-04 02:47 PM

How about...
"Honey I am going to splurge and buy a nice used computer for a few hundred dollars, instead of playing poker at the office and giving you the impression I am having an affair...."?

Seriously, $300 Should buy you an acceptable computer strictly for poker....
If you can't afford that, should you really be gambling?

Duh.

Tell her you are having an affair and have a hot date with your girlfriend tonight.

uh why would you want to lie about playing poker? tell her you're going to play poker, or she's going to assume you're cheating.

on second thought, make up a lie and ruin your marriage.

jsut say your playing poker. And if she doesn't like it, well too bad.

never forget about the chance that she is faking the outrage at you playing at the office, and is taking the time to get a little bit on the side. she can count on you being out of the house a couple of nights a week, so she has the opportunity. plus, it isnt like you can say much to her, because you know that her response will be something about you choosing poker over her.

Thanks a lot jerky.

I was too paranoid last night and it tilted me. Now I have to explain how I lost the month's rent.

ChipFish 11-09-04 08:40 AM

Tell her you blew it on your mistress...
She won't even bring up poker. ;)

Its good to see that there are lots of strong, healthy relationships out there... :D

I would agree with TP, go with the reverse psychology:

I might go with girlfriend*s* though :p
