Anybody have any hand superstitions

I know I read that Doyle Brunson never plays AQ (which I don't believe).

Does anyone else have any hands they play or don't play based on superstition?

Mine is J9 suited. I don't know why, and I normally wouldn't play it, but I always play that hand. Don't know if I win with it though, guess I should start keeping track.

when I first started playing I didn't know much about odds, so I was losing a lot of inside straight draws (imagine that). One in particular used to be especially unlucky....Drawing to jacks. ex. Have A 10, KQ on board, seemed like jacks NEVER came. For a good three months I would fold anything that required drawing to a jack...

Now I know that it doesn't matter if it is a jack or any other 4 out situation, still a crappy draw, in most situations at least. :D

JJ. Every time I touch it, it turns to dust. I never raise pre-flop with it and as soon as an overcard hits the board I fold, unless of course I hit trips.

i dont have any particular hand superstitions. i like playing any suited king, just for the trap value of the hand if you hit with it.

has anyone here seen the website devoted to the professional 72o player? i forget where it is, otherwise i would post a link here, but it is actually pretty funny.

I feel the exact same....
Sometimes when I hit a set, I even consider folding... Stupid Jacks.

A10 , I've busted out of more final tables with that hand then any other . I hate it and will never play it again(ya right ). But A10suited just gets the better of me and it should be such an easy laydown.

JJ is a scary hand, but you gotta play it strong. If you play it weak, you'll get run off at the first sign of an overcard. Jacks are mysterious and cunning. Play them like a hand better than Aces, and you'll see amazing results.

I'm just kidding about the mysterious and cunning stuff.

AT is a "depends" hand. Early in the tournament, I would always fold AT unless I'm on the button and noone else entered the pot. Moving on in the tournament, AT is a good blind stealing hand. I never win much with it (personally), but I will play it if the time is right.

I agree though - overall - in most situations, it's an easy laydown.

I am forced to lose money with J8 suited for the rest of my life. Folded it one day in particular and the flop was J-J-8, no big deal, we have all folded boats before and J8 is a hand to get rid of pre-flop, very next hand I get J8suited, again I muck it and the flop is 9-10-Q all hearts, yep folded a boat then a straight flush two hands in a row, I can't fold it now.

Now that's the type of stuff I'm lookin for. Thanks for sharing.

the one hand that my friends and i all play is 96o, aka the gay sailor.

we all play in a low stakes home game, so it isnt really a big deal, but whenever someone win with it the rest of the place goes nuts.

PShabi 11-02-04 03:13 PM

Why is it called the Gay Sailor? Am I missing something?

Jackass_man 11-02-04 03:23 PM

Gay sailor to funny!

Favorite hand: a black 8 and a red 4.

Most unlucky hand: AK offsuit (after losing a lot with this hand over a 2 week period, i actually stopped playing it for a while)

junYUN 11-02-04 09:28 PM

i have the same problem. everytime i hit it i am almost guaranteed that the flop will have a high face card, and that card will belong to the only guy who called my bet.

Heh. Me too. I also like J10s.
