25NL...but I had odds to call

I hate this phrase and I hear it at least 10 times a day at these levels. I dont konw if people are totally reading the odds section of their poker books wrong or not but they are really getting this odds thing wrong. Usually I just smile to myself knowing that these idiots are way off, but every once in awhile I just go off on them.

Here is a example of what I mean, now this guy didnt say anything about odds but I have had people say "they had odds to call" in exact same instances. Im holding 2-2 and flop comes down 10s-As-2h I check it to the 2 players hopeing to check-raise, It works they shoot down a $3 bet into a $2 pot and I re-raise all in for $19. One guy folds and the other guy calls, at this point I put him on either A-10 or AK or something along those lines if he has AA or 10-10 so be it but im pretty sure im ahead. So the turn and river are no A or 10 so im expecting to drag the pot but I watch the money goes his way seeing his 2 suited rags just won a big pot. How the hell do you call
$19 into a $8 pot with suited rags.

Usually at this point the player would say they had odds to call my big bet.
My question is how the hell do they think they had odds to draw when I bet more then double the pot?

I think you answered your own question up near the top of your post... they don't understand the concept of odds.

hmmm

guess i just wanted to bitch, want to hear other peoples stories of when someone called and then said "but I had odds to call"

as many times as I hear this a day I know some others must hear this also.

I like playing with players who think they know what they are doing wen in fact they don't.

Would you rather play with someone who folds in the situation you described or calls with his suited rags? Me, I'll take the caller.

caller all the way

this is what i tried to explain to a losing player the other day (buddy of mine)... he was playing online and i was watching him as he said "please fold" when he had a set and there was 2 to the flush on board...

i said "fold? wtf? why would you want that"

"because he could get a flush"

stupid losing players :D

BrianSwa 06-08-05 07:57 PM

yep

no way I totally wanted him to call I just always think its funny after the hand when they say they had great pot odds to call.

Ill take a caller over a folder any day.

Ok

I dont know if I buy into this, but somedays it feels like I would like the guy who folds. If you take 9 people all calling s00ted rags, do you always get sucked out enough to cause -EV? lol. Its just a working theory.

Brian, you dumbass :D.

Instead of bitching at these players, you have to butter them up, good call, nice hand, blah, then take note and add to buddy list.

If you sat at a table with this guy and played 10 hands, and all 10 hands came with a four flush for him and you hitting trips, you are going to win roughly 7 of these 10 hands, well into the +.

Talking Poker 06-09-05 12:51 PM

Subtle. I like it.

BrianSwa 06-09-05 12:53 PM
