My Senator says...

I recently took a minute to fire off an email to my Congressmen through the . Here is the only response I've received so far:

Below is a response to the recent comments I received from you:

So basically he recaps the legislative history of the issue and then says precisely zero about where he stands.

Perfect politician. Takes 4 friggin' paragraphs to say nothing. :talktothehand

FYP, I actually need to write all three of my legislators about this issue. Considering that Ted Stevens (ranking member of the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation) once compared the internet to a series of tubes I'm not that hopeful.

Kurn 04-21-08 11:11 AM

Perfect Republican.

If you think Democrats are any less BS, you're delusional.

I wrote my legislators. All democrats about the UIGEA. The one who didn't reply with total BS (Sen Jack Reed), replied how proud he was to protect us from internet gambling.

The only thing stupider than voting Republican is voting Democratic.

You know how there is always apathy regarding the elections, voter turnout is only at like 60% on a presidential election. I can understand that sentiment in Alaska.

The State of Alaska has voted for a Republican President in all but one of the elections since obtaining statehood (of all the Dems we could vote for, it was LBJ). We had the trifecta going for a long time. Both Senators and the Rep from Alaska are Republican and until Frank Murkowski stepped down to run for Governor (and appointed his daughter as Senator) all three were extremely senior. For a time we had almost as much power in congress as most of the "large" states.

Republican Governor, Republican Senators & Representative, and we always vote for a republican president.

I haven't decided how I'm going to vote, but I have a feeling that it won't matter anyway (other than local elections).

Quit fucking babysitting us, goverment! If someone wants to lose their fucking house online, its their own damn decision to make. Tax it, take your cut, and stfu.

God. Please make people more accountable and less excuse-oriented. Fuck me.

OK. Like me. I live in RI (have for the past 5 years) and for 33 years before that in MA. Same thing there. Always Democrats.

But in some ways that gives us a unique opportunity to help in some way frame the political debate. The way I look at it, the only way my vote in a Presidential election makes any sense is if it helps send a message to either or both political parties.

If you want to be free to BOTH play online poker AND keep all of your winnings, vote Libertarian.

It won't change where your or my State's electoral votes go, but maybe it'll filter down to the level where the losing party says "why can't we win here?"

Just remember, if there was never a Norman Thomas (Depression era Socialist Party candidate), FDR would never have conceived of The New Deal.

3rd party votes are not wasted.

We had record turnout for all of the democratic caucuses, if Obama wins the Dem's nod it will be a very interesting election.

Sad that an elected official has forgotten that our government was not set up to protect us from ourselves, but was set up to protect us from the government.

Talking Poker 04-21-08 04:09 PM

Yes, that is correct. I found one sentence to be worthwhile reading:

Talking Poker 04-21-08 04:10 PM

You can write to all three at once with a few clicks of the mouse (plus any customizing you may want to include) at the PAA site.

Kurn 04-21-08 04:23 PM

Jack Reed is an unrepentant Communist. He makes Teddy Kennedy and Bill Frist look like libertarians by comparison.

Akverno 04-21-08 09:44 PM

I actually think I'm going to take the time to write out a full letter to each of them. Find places in their voting history that tends to fall in line with what the PPA would like to see rather then issue a letter from the PPA. If only enough Alaskans could get together to change Ted Stevens's mind then we would actually have a chance at changing the laws.

Robbr25 04-22-08 01:46 AM

I got a response too.
Here it is:

herschelw 04-22-08 02:25 AM

Why should they give you a straight up response. We have a system(democracy that rewards playing the middle). How many people can look past thier rep disagreeing with them on a key issue. If they play the middle and the issue never comes up for a vote then you are much more likely to vote for them than if they gave you an answer you didnt like. Politics obviously has strategy and they must use it to be elected and stay elected

MAYHEM45 04-22-08 03:05 AM

your name is mr Ass?

Talking Poker 04-22-08 11:28 AM
