Chat Room?
 

Hey TP I noticed that a bunch of other forums have a "chat" section where you can log in and just basically have an IM conversation through the site, and I think that'd be a good addition to this forum... in my experience it really brings the forum community together when you can talk realtime instead of like in an email format through posts. If there is already a chat function available and I can't find it, I apologize for the raging stupidity.

I have one on mine, not spamming TP just telling you I do. It is very good and nice and dosent cause any problems at all with my community. I payed about $50 for my buddie to install mine and theme it towards my board. I got to tell you its pretty cool to all be sitting in there, it also makes setting up games supereasy and a whole new demension on railing. I think it would be good idea here.

There are free ones out there. I'll try to check if I saved the one I had, once.

paying the $50 was worth it for how nice it looks.

There is good and bad points with having a chat room on a forum.

Good point : it's fun, you can converse better amongst many members and you could create your own private rooms and chat.

Bad point: if most members go to chat, you don't get as many members posting. Except for the HH discussions.

havent had that problem personally, installed it yesturday and have had more posts.

It would be a fun addition, TP should add it.

It's something I've thought about and decided against in the past. I agree that there are some pros, but I think it takes away from the posting, which is what this forum is about. With posts, people can log on as time permits and catch themselves up on everything that has happened - and miss nothing. With a chat room, people could miss a lot more.

I'll consider it if people really want it, but I'm still leaning against it.



And Brian - seriously man, no wonder that other forum banned you. I'm not sure how I can be any more clear with you than I have been via PM... If you have to keep saying "I'm not spamming but...." werll, you're probably spamming. It's like the people who say, "I'm not racist but {Insert racist comments here}."

why I have not given the link out at all, and if someone pm'ed wouldnt tell them about it. I brought it up because it fit with the conversation. Im too busy banning Wes's accounts anyway. :thumbsup:

I don't think the chat would take away from poker posts. It would probably be more casual/social conversation if we had one. I couldn't care less.

I'm going to install a chat room for us to try out for a week or so. After that, we can decide if we'll keep it or not. I suspect we will, since the general consensus is that it's a good thing.

Now I just need to pick the best Chat Room...

I'll try to get this up and running soon. I have a vbulletin upgrade to run anyway.

Any news on when this is happening?

I have it narrowed down to two programs... I need to decide which is better.

I also have a friend here this week, so I may not get around to it until next week. I'll have it up by the end of the month.
