Haven't you learned yet that online poker is rigged specifically against your IP address?

Poker Stars actually uses the movements of your mouse as an input in their random number generator algorithm.

So start jamming the right button of the mouse furiously before every flop and I promise you'll be flopping sets all day long.

Odds are ...

This sucks for sure, but you have to put it in perspective. Though this is the extreme end of the spectrum for shit-ass hands, it happens. The way we make our money in poker is to have a slightly better hand than the other guy. You just ended up on the dumb-end this time.

You need to let it totally go before you continue to play in these situations. I know you know this, but sometimes tilt can be a fickle bitch. She’ll sneak up on you and before you know it, you’re down 4 or 5 times the amount you lost on the original suck-ass hand that put you on tilt in the first place.

AA vs KK is 3 to 1 - you need to remember that 1 out of 4 times those K’s are going to suck-out on you. Those are the facts. Poker’s not about the 1 hand and its about odds over time. And if you remember to think about it in these terms you’ll be less likely to let tilt sway your game.

Lady Luck’s not against you, so take tomorrow off and come back the next day and give her you’re a-game.

To answer the question posed by the title:

A) a bad beat post
B) Poker

"Best thing I can tell you is to pick your spots and be aggressive. The idea behind NL tournaments is not to show your hand unless you're sure it's good. Think about this... let's say you are short-stacked. If you get pocket aces against, say pocket Jacks, you're 4.5:1 to win... or about 82%. So you get your money in and go all-in, get called, and are hoping to double up. You do. Very next hand, you get aces again. You push all-in and get called by QQs... again, 82%. You win and double up again. But you're still just an average stack. Next hand you get them AGAIN! You push all-in and get called by a big stack with pocket 22s. Still 82%, but this time you lose. Ouch. Bad-beat, righ? Sure, sure...
But the funny thing is, it's not a bad beat at all. You see, you are basically betting a parlay. You must win the first + second + third. Figuring out the chances of winning all of them is done by multiplying all of the percentages together (82% x 82% x 82%)... it comes up to roughly 55%. So you are only a slight favorite to still be in the tournament after being all-in three times with the best hand in the game."

- AK v. 72o is only about a 6:4 favorite
- If you're on the button and everyone folded to you, the chance of one of the blinds having a pocket pair is only about 1/8
- The chances of QQ flopping a set or overpair is about 66%
- The chances of JJ flopping a set or overpair is about 50%
- The chances of TT flopping a set or overpair is only about 33%
- The chances of any pair flopping a set is about 13%
- The chances of any non-pair holding flopping a pair is 33%

Dude you gotta look at it this way.....bad beats are gonna happen, and sometimes they work out for you....I played one SNG on Pstars that when i went all in i never had the best hand goin in yet i always won. Its math, you will have extreme days like this on both ends of the spectrum.

johnp158 03-07-06 12:23 PM

You people all have it wrong. You've GOT to get a pattern mapper so you'll know when this is gonna happen. Then you can fold your aces when your opponent's about to flop quads.

Jeez.

eejit101 03-07-06 04:32 PM

no no no. the hand sucks. But as the owner of okerstars id like to say i thought it was your turn. And this forum had nothing to talk about so i threw ten extra jacks into the random number generator.

Talking Poker 03-07-06 07:54 PM

We have a Bad Beat section for threads like this. For future reference.

As for consolation: It happens. That's poker.

Ando05 03-07-06 08:08 PM

i completly understand what u guys r sayin about the chances of me losing AA or KK or whatever hand that is dominating. but if u read my post, i said that every had i had dominated lost. and this is coming from a guy that got 2nd out of 5062, so i know a little about poker. You guys are sayin that there are a lot of chances of losing AA the third time, but im sayin that imagine u lost AA all three times. yes there is a chance, but cmon, that will surely make u tilt. Just sayin that 80% of those hands were supposed to be mine, but none of them were, NONE!
