2006 WSOP Main Event...
Rather than clutter up the thread that is for , I wanted to start a new one for all Main Event talk.
The final numbers aren't in yet, but it looks like this year's tourney is going to be a LOT bigger than anyone expected - 8532 entrants plus alternates! We are finally underway. Updates here: |
Jealousy mounting, hatred for boss growing...............
Friend of mine is playing today, if you happen to get an update on Don Wooden please post it (I know, outside shot). Do us proud. |
I wish they had a list of all the big pros in the field for today...
do you know if Hellmuth is playing today? also good luck to Penguins friend. |
HAHA
All-In Called with 8-High On a flop of 10:c:7:c:5:s:, Tim Rod bets $300 and his opponent raises to $600. Rod calls and the turn puts the 3:c: on the board. Rod again bets out with $1,500 and is again raised by his opponent to $4,000. Rod calls and the river puts the 3:s: on the board. Rod pushes all-in and his opponent immediately calls. Rod flips up K:c:Q:c:for a turned flush. His opponent says, "Do I have a straight flush? Oh, no I don't," as he shows 8:d:6:s: for 8-high. |
I'm pretty sure he's playing either tomorrow or Sunday, but I forget which.
It's just complete insanity - this whole thing... There are SO MANY people. I'm going to head down to the Rio in another hour or two, hang out for a while and then meet up with the TP folks tonight. So far, I'm not al that impressed with CardPlayer's updates. I would say that PokerWire is another source to keep an eye on, butthey are running the exact smae updates! |
Sticky this.
BTW what's your name? Mark something right? |
Marky Mark.
We're the Funky Bunch. |
Mark Petrillo (sp?) I think... look for him at the final table.
|
You Suck Cheval. :)
|

Big names eliminated today...
Clonie Gowen :( Dan Harrington (wow) Chip Jett Amir Vahedi Minh Nguyen (who apparently never showed up... lol) I'm sure there were others but that was as far down as the CP site would go. |
not a bad day for the pros...
Dan Harrington is by far the biggest knock out of the tournament so far, you expect him to aleast cash in this event each year if not go deep. |
I mean I think I know what you're saying, but can you really EXPECT anyone to cash in this thing? Besides TP of course. |
I know you cant expect him to cash in a 8500+ field but if anyone could do it, it was him.
|
2nd day started....
After you make it 1500 and the other guy makes it 3000, don't you get away from this hand? Sure he could be a terrible donk but you have no idea, and you must assume that most people aren't getting crazy in the first hand without AA. |
I think you could fold KK here.... or call and take a look at a flop (I prefer the fold). Can your opponent really make a FOUR BET with anythng besides AA??? I'd lay this down, and "start over" with 8500 chips. No biggie.
Getting all my money in as worse than a 4:1 dog on the first hand of the WSOP Main Event - no thanks... especially with the Kiss of Death. Conversly, if I was the AA guy, I woud have played it pretty much exactly how he did. The only difference is if this was me, a King would have hit on the turn or river. |
hey Penguin, did your friend make it through day 1?
|
Unless "Don" is a nickname and "Jack" is his real name, it's not looking good. This is the only Wooden I see on the list:
Jack Wooden $14,675 10 6 |
I'm reading through yesterday's updates now... just spotted this. Ugh.
Ironically, I've checked my receipt at least a half a dozen times to ensure that it does indeed say TOMORROW, and not today. |
This is funny. How great would it have been if the opponent sooth called and then raised on the turn though?
|
That is correct after losing 12K on the last hand he played, but he's still in it.
Word to the wise TP, AQ is NO GOOD this year. |
It wasn't any good last year either. That's he hand that knocked me out of the first tourney I played in last year, and literally THE moment that I became a much better player.

Tiffany Williamson Eliminated
Mark Shoichet raises preflop to $600 and Tiffany Williamson makes the call. The flop comes 9-4-3 and Shoichet bets $600. Williamson raises to $3,000 and Shoichet goes all-in. Williamson then asks Shoichet, "Do you have trips?" After 5 minutes, Shoichet calls the clock on Williamson. She calls and turns over 10-10. Shoichet has K-K and the board bricks out for Williamson, who is eliminated early on in the championship event. LOL she is the biggest donkey ever... she will never cash in another tourney again prolly. |
well
have seen here make worse plays then that she did have overpair, but putting that much preflop on TT I dont like. Dont know chip stacks but dosent that kinda commit yourself. Dont like commiting myself with TT. |
Her call was bad. Preflop is fine (are you seriously going to throw away TT every time someone raises in front of you???). On the flop, she raised too much (2000 would have been plenty), but raising was correct... It's a way of asking "Do you have TT beat?" The problem is, he answered "Yes" and she didn't listen and fold. He obviously didn't have trips, but his play SCREAMS of AA, KK, or QQ. That should have been an easy fold for her right there. There is pretty much no hand he could have that she could beat here.
Also, when you start wih 10k chips, 600 does not "commit" you. |
Williamson then asks Shoichet, "Do you have trips?" After 5 minutes, Shoichet calls the clock on Williamson.
How am I not surprised... |
Jeff Madsen sitting on 23K early in this tourney....
if I was going to bet on any one person to win this tourney, it is this kid... hes 21 yrs old and won 2 bracelets this year and made 4 WSOP final tables. |
My Moneys on either Petrillo or Hellmuth for this year
|
Right?
|
lol, nice
|
according to , Hellmuth is out.
|
Phil wasnt doing too well so Im sure he is prolly out...
|
Phil Hellmuth Eliminated
Phill Hellmuth was all-in with A-Q, versus an opponent's pocket 7s. The 7s hold up, and a once short-stcked Phill Hellmuth is now eliminated. |
has tp began play yet?
|
umm, no, i think he starts in about 15 hours.
|
mark petrillo is the name to look out for right?
|
thats the boy were watching ya.
Look for the big x6 figures before his name on card player before the day is done |
TP...
how are the Stolzman's doing? is your 2% in both of them looking good so far or what? or have neither one played yet? |
sorry
I missread the hand I thought she raised $3,000 preflop to someone elses raise of 600. This is totally different now sorry I thought she had raised 3k preflop to 600 chip raise which would of put $7200in pot right 3600 from her and 3600 from other guy then with dude betting on flop that would be half her stack there which if you put half your stack in on a safe flop like that you are gonna put the rest in correct? thats why i said putting that much on TT and not calling that much on TT. I like TT alot its one of favorite hands so yes would of played hand same way but making that call. I think It was pretty easy lay down like you said the dude told her she was beat. |
Steve got knocked out tonight. I left my cash game to have dinner with him (I'll elaborate on this in the thread with my updates), and he was still in, but getting short. He eventually ot all in with QQ vs. KK.
He said his M was around 11, there was a raise from 2 off the button, the SB (shorter stack than Steve) reraised and he pushed in. The first player folded and the SB called with KK. I know he regrets making the play, and I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. I mean, there are only two hands he's way behind, and because the SB was short, her reraise range could be a lot bigger than AA and KK... Anyhoo, he's out and John plays tomorrow. Zy's boy plays tomorrow too, but I forget his name. actully, there are an assload of people who play tomorrow - lots of big names... you know, like Mark Petrillo. |
tommorrow is the big day... good luck man, hopefully we hear good news.
|
Yes TP i wish you the best dude, we all know you will play smart, but at times the luck can take over. I wish you the best of it....
|
|
|
|
TP,
Hellmuth got knocked out holding AQ A Q! I'm telling you now, muck that shit or it will bite you. |
I saw that... hes looking pretty tough so far.

Farha Eliminated With Full House
John Phan raises pre-flop, and he is called by Joe Berry and Sam Farha. The flop comes 964, Phan raises, Berry calls, and Farha re-raises. Phan folds and Berry smooth calls. The turn brings another 6, and once again, Farha bets into Berry who just calls. The river brings a 10, and Farha moves all-in. Berry calls and Farha flips over pocket 9s for a full house. Berry shows pocket 6s, and Farha can't believe his opponent turned quads against his top set. Farha is eliminated. Ouch! even worse... Hardest Beat EVER Jack Mahalingam is all-in for $5,000 and is called an opponent in late position. Mahalingam shows 88 and his opponent has 55. The flop is 655 and his opponent flops quads. The turn is a 9 giving Mahalingam a gut-shot straight flush draw (his only way to win). The river is the 7 giving Mahalingam the straight flush and the hand. |
I was SUPPOSED to go broke with AQs tonight, but I didn't. Zy was railing me at the time and said he would have. That's not necessarily saying I played the hand perfectly, but AQ did try to break me.
|
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy
45 minutes into day 1d
Mon Jul 31 12:45:00 PDT 2006 Sean Sheikhan Eliminated On a flop of 973 and $675 in the pot, the player in seat 2 bets $700. Sean Sheikhan raises to $2,000 and the player re-raises all-in for $10,000 more. Sheikhan makes the call and shows QQ while his opponent shows 99 for a set. The turn and river come 8K, and Sheikhan is eliminated. |
