In case any one didn't know...

Party just closed 2 of JJprodigey's (sp?) accounts and confiscated $180k+.

Robbr25 02-18-06 12:40 AM

What reason?

redbank09 02-18-06 12:49 AM

holy shit, he is the man. hope he was in on some bull shit, thats a hell of alot of money.

i meant to type wasnt in on bull shit

Talking Poker 02-18-06 12:51 AM

Holy crap!

More info, please.

JDMcNugent7 02-18-06 12:52 AM

He's a fag and played on at least 2 accounts in one tournament when he won $140k at Party's 500k guarenteed and he has played multiple accounts on multiple tournys in the past as well
It's awesome Party actually did something about this.. they closed both his accounts and took all the $$$ out of both, like Chip said, 180K+.

Since then everyone has been talking about how many pros do this same thing with multiple accounts and how its really more common than ppl think.

JDMcNugent7 02-18-06 12:55 AM

JJProdigy's words about it...

Alright, so here it is.

The account 'ABlackCar' was not made for multi-accounting. It was intentionally made for my grandma for her birthday present. However, it was never given to her. So, I had an extra account. Yes, I multi-tabled. Yes, it is incredibly easy. Yes, many people do it was . You really have no idea about the situation.

About 2 months ago, I thought it was just a really bad idea like everyone else. A lot of my friends did it, and i always gave them a hard time for it. But, I had a conversation with a player where we decided it would be a lot of +EV to not be known when you are playing MTTs. So, basically, I had a spare account with tons of +EV in it. So many poeple did it with no reprocautions. I know someone who had over 10 accounts in a recent million guaranteed. Party has no idea.

So, back to the day of the win. When there was about 30 left, I started telling all these people I was in. I was too much caught up in the moment, and it was a really stupid thing to do in hindsight. It slipped out, and everyone knew. The account was in the name of my grandma, and it was intended for her to play in, so that was the easiest excuse for me. I apologize for lieing to everyone. I really do. When such a large amount of money is on the line, it's really tough to be loyal to morals.

The next morning, both accounts were close. Today, they took away all the money. The roughly 40k in JJProdigy, and the 140k in ABlackCar.

redbank09 02-18-06 01:04 AM

holy shit that is crazy

Robbr25 02-18-06 01:05 AM

I tell ya, if I win that much money and have two accounts,
It is going to NetTeller after the tourney.

ChipFish 02-18-06 01:46 AM

What I find most amusing about all of this is how a large number of players are sticking up for him.
Saying what he did was ok...

Even funnier is if he had of kept his mouth shut, not a thing would have happened, and he would still have his $180k and multi accounts.

ChipFish 02-18-06 01:46 AM

Oh yeah, read all about it on Pocket 5s

Talking Poker 02-18-06 02:04 AM

Maybe he, you know, shouldn't have cheated.

Sucks to lose that much money, but he was asking for it. I'm glad Party made an example of him. Maybe that will deter these other guys who he claims play with 10 different accounts in a single MTT.

MAYHEM45 02-18-06 03:26 AM

Reading that thread this morning made me smile from ear to ear. What a douchebag.

Dodoubled 02-18-06 07:17 AM

Here's the full link, including the info McNugent cut and paste as well as the letter Party sent to JJProdigy.

melioris 02-18-06 08:11 AM

Look, I am not trying to be the politically correct police, but wtf is with the “gay” insult? It may be true that this guy fucks other guys, but that has nothing to do with the fact that he is a cheat and deserves to have his money confiscated.

I am all for hating, but lets hate for the right reasons.

Talking Poker 02-18-06 12:25 PM

This is really what it all comes down to:

I wonder how (exactly) they are going to go about refunding money to the players who were affected. Were you in this tourney, JD?

How so many people can defend this guy's actions, I do not understand.

From Party's Terms and Conditions:

Seems pretty clear to me.

bunny 02-18-06 12:29 PM

Here here!

Seems like a decent forum, except for the fact that some members keep bashing the gay community.

I saw the same thing happen on Stars while playing with a few of this forum's members and now I see it yet again. I think it should come from the boss himself if he's willing to put up with such comments then the members won't mind saying such things.

When will you all learn that it is not right to say things like that in reference to gay people?

GTDawg 02-18-06 12:31 PM

That kinda sucks to see him talk about other people doing it. It's probably not "common" among a large group, but it seemed like he was talking like it was an accepted and understood practice among certain people.

Terrible.

But, what I'm wondering...how are they taking away his 40k from the first account? Is that from the past or did he earn all that in the 9 common tourneys that they pointed out?

2Tone 02-18-06 12:31 PM

Agreed

I was playing in a tourney in which someone got caugt cheating, my reaction would be anger rather than sympathy. He was also pretty transparent about the whole thing, and shouldn't be keeping that kind of cash in poker accounts anyway.

What I found interesting was Party's comment that "Funds gathered by this deception will be refunded to the players that were affected." How will they go about this? Will anyone who played the tourney be entitled to ask them for a piece of the confiscation pie?

bunny 02-18-06 12:39 PM

Anyone who has ever played with him (JJ) in tournaments should be given back their buy-in for it. That would be a step in the right direction for Party to take.

Talking Poker 02-18-06 12:46 PM

Was this not very sarcastic post of mine not clear enough?

Do I need to post a link to that in every thread when someone says something is "gay?" Or should I simply start banning people every time that say something that someone somewhere may find offensive. Wait a minute - GTDawg is a batboy for the Atlanta BRAVES! Well, there are plenty of American Indians who find that term offensive, so I guess I better ban him, right?

Yeah, that's ridiculous. I'm not going to start censoring this forum, nor am I going to try to figure out where to draw the line between innocent comments and minor insults. If someone goes way, way over the line (meaning it's clear to everyone - everyone is offended), then I'll deal with it, just like I always have in the past. But I don't think I'm so high and mighty that I should get to decide what words are allowed and what ones aren't, just because someone out there finds them offensive. That's asking way too much of me, and would end up offending more people who are being censored than were offended by the "gay" comment in the first place. This is a lose-lose situation for me, see?

I think posts like meloris' above are perfectly acceptable, although a PM would have served the same purpose (there are a number of members who have received PMs from me in the past about certain "language" that other people have complained to me about). I would like to think that over time, guys like JD will realize that even though they might mean no offense to the homosexual community by using words like "gay" and "fag" and whatever in a negative context, some of their peers here find them offensive, so hopefully they will refrain from using them in the future. But that's up to them as individuals. I'm simply not going to start censoring every single word that someone somewhere finds offensive. I can't.

Edit: More "gay" reading material, for anyone who missed it (I see no need to recreate this same exact conversation over nad over again):

Talking Poker 02-18-06 12:48 PM

He broke theirs Terms. So they can close his account and take his money. It's that simple. BOTH accounts were involved in the cheating, not just the one that he happened to win a big tourney with. The other account was playing in the same tourney (possibly even dumping chips, colluding, etc).

Robbie Robb 02-18-06 12:49 PM

According to an email that was posted on RGP, for this tourney they're bumping everyone up one spot. So whoever it was that finished in 2nd, now finishes 1st and gets the extra $10K associated. I don't know if this has been confirmed as being legitimate yet or not though.

This does cause concern for me however. Nikki & I OFTEN play MTTs together. We've NEVER ended up on a table together (except in that one TP event) and we're so competitive with each other we wouldn't tell each other shit. In fact, we'd probably go out of our way to bust the other person out :). But we could easily be seen as colluding on these games. For this reason, even though I'm pretty sure you guys all trust us, she's not going to crash the last league event since I'm playing for position. Well, hopefully if any questions ever do arise about our play, we'll be able to answer those questions to the satisfaction of the company involved.

JDMcNugent7 02-18-06 12:59 PM

No, TP i was not in this tourny.

And... sorry for using the word "fag" to bunny and Meloris and whoever else... I honestly didnt even think about it or realized i typed it. I have no problem with gay ppl at all, i think that is prob. the first time i used that word on this forum in all 1,000 of my posts, and i wont use it again.

Talking Poker 02-18-06 12:59 PM

I'm perfectly happy to have N1k play in the final league event, but it's probably better that she doesn't. While I trust you guys, if you were to win, there could potentially be controversy, etc, etc. Then again, who's to say that Aeq and pshabi haven't been on AIM together every time pshabi has backed Lou to play in the league with us, so Lou could dump all his chips to pshabi so he could win the $50 bet he and I have? Hmmmmmmm.... :D

I think it would be fine if she played, but it's up to you.

On a more important note, you and N1k may want to proactively contact the poker sites about your playing in MTTs together, if you haven't already... just in case.

Talking Poker 02-18-06 01:02 PM

Thanks, JD. I knew you didn't mean any offense by it, but thanks for the apology and for saying you will try to be more aware of it in the future. I think that's all anyone could ask of you.

GTDawg 02-18-06 01:09 PM

You know, TP...I think the forum code is absolutely ffffaaaaabbbbbuuuulllloooooouuuuuuusssss

But, the fact that it keeps trying to install a Celine Dion screensaver everytime I visit the site is a little much.
------

And man, you should see the people that get upset at the Braves thing. It's always white people I see complaining.

Talking Poker 02-18-06 01:15 PM

I'm not sure if you were joking about this or not... people have actually made similar comments in the past. But there are no popups, no spyware, no nothing here. If anything weird like that ever does happen to you, it's because you have a virus or Adware on your computer. It's not coming from this forum.

GTDawg 02-18-06 01:17 PM

Hahaha

No man...

melioris 02-18-06 01:23 PM

Hey JD- it is no problem. I only pointed it out because I knew you didn’t mean anything by it and figured that the best way to clear it. It is not like you cheated at poker.

TP-I didn’t mean hijack the thread or anything like that. I figured I’d post, JD would realize that are hypersensitive fucks like me out there, and that would be the end of it.

Robbie Robb 02-18-06 01:26 PM

I think she'll still probably sit this one out. If I didn't have a hope in hell of cashing out in the points, then, yeah, absolutely, we'd both play. But since I'm in 2nd right now and if I bring my A+ game and Zy can't make it, I've got a chance at first place. Ergo, it's best for everyone that she not play. I'd MUCH rather win this and have everyone go "Great playing Rob!" as opposed to "Congrats Rob...but..."

Definitely something we should do. Right now the only MTTs that we play in are the $0.10 (hehe) ones on PS and some of the TEC/points freerolls on UB, but yeah, we should definitely let them know. I think that our play styles are different enough to be noticeable so that anyone reviewing would realize there's no way that the same person is playing both usernames. But yeah, definitely something we should do.
EDIT: Just sent off emails to PS and UB, the only two sites we really play on together. Hopefully they won't have a problem.

jillaj 02-18-06 01:39 PM

See now I am offended by that generalization. I also prefer the term caucasion american.

Robbie Robb 02-18-06 01:41 PM

Then there are those that are offended by all the politically correct crap in the first place! :D

MAYHEM45 02-18-06 01:41 PM

Dude, yes you were in this tourney. If I were you I would run a search in your PT for ABlackCar. If you were ever at a table with him, you should let party know.

ChipFish 02-18-06 01:46 PM

These posts are just "SOOOPER!"

Talking Poker 02-18-06 01:50 PM

I don't think you need to worry about that. You may get a few "luckbox" type comments though - I seriously think I saw you win 90% of the time you went in with the worst of it a couple tourneys ago. :D

Talking Poker 02-18-06 01:54 PM

At times, that would be me. Well, I'm not offended by it, but it can get a little ridiculous at times.

Robbie Robb 02-18-06 02:03 PM

<Kelso>Buuuuurrrrrnnnn!</Kelso>

Yeah, I played a little recklessly that game. Trust me, it won't be happening Sunday night. If you see me all-in pre-flop KNOW that I'm holding AA, KK, or maybe AKs...oh yeah, or KJ :)

redbank09 02-18-06 02:38 PM

this is 2006 and with dumbass eminem being around for 7 years u would think that people would understand when jd called him a fag he didnt mean he sleeps with guys. he just meant he is an ass or he is shady.

Aequitas58 02-18-06 02:56 PM

Judging by the smiley, I can only assume that you are not serious.

I can see from your perspective how it could look like dumping, but that didn't happen, nor was it anything like that. He told me the event was starting, I told him I didn't have money on Stars, he backed me for 50% of winnings if I placed (plus the buyin). We would only talk about hands w/ each other if the other person was out of the game... ie: I folded, but he's got action w/ TP, etc.

I think I hand I went in on what something ridiculous (Q-high on a gutshot draw?), but when he bet into me, I put him on a bluff. I remember liking the texture of the flop, because he missed w/ the range of hands I put him on. So, I pushed, trusting my read, and made the wrong decision. My read was incorrect (it happens!) and I was out.

Oh well.

bunny 02-18-06 03:00 PM

Apology accepted.

I used to be the same as you, saying it all the time without realizing I was offending anyone, up until someone mentioned it to me and told me how disrespectful it truly was.

Thankyou for understanding.

Aequitas58 02-18-06 03:11 PM

Back to the topic of this thread:

It's a common thing that top online tournament players (TLB leaders, etc.) play the same tournament w/ multiple accounts. If a top player is given the option of playing one account tight and solid (making that the "safety" account), he's given the freedom to play his other account more reckless by pushing his small edges. His goal is catch a few hands with the reckless account so that he's in great shape for the middle of the tournament. Again, if his plan doesn't work out with the reckless account, he always had the saftey net other account.

Anyway, you can see the dilemma. It's infinitely hard to catch these multi-account players, so more and more people do it. Now here comes JJProdigy. A good player who learned how the "system" works at the higher levels. To be competitive, you have to play with multiple accounts yourself, because there are other PROS who have 15 accounts in the weekly $215. He's unlucky enough to get caught, and now he's a scapegoat?

Morally, I think it's wrong, but then again: if I'm gambling with other people, they are cheating against me, I know about the cheating, and I know it's not being stopped, why shouldn't I cheat back?

Just the other side of the argument. :)

PShabi 02-18-06 03:15 PM

He wasn't serious. Anyway, you didn't bust to me in the tourney I backed you in. You put your own money up in the one you're talking about.

redbank09 02-18-06 03:17 PM

your whole statement sounds so familar aque. oh yeah, thats what all of major league baseball said, they are cheating, why shouldnt i.

JDMcNugent7 02-18-06 03:17 PM

I know u dont think like this exactly, but.. thats the same stupid reasoning JJ used... everyone else is cheating - so its suddenly okay ?
That's just dumb and he's dumb for doing it so I'm very glad they took the $ back.

PShabi 02-18-06 03:17 PM

I see the point of the other side of the argument. But, if that was the only way I could compete, then I'd just rather not play.

JD, TP, etc who buy-in to these frequently:

How do you feel about buying into these tourneys in the future?

bunny 02-18-06 03:20 PM

Because if you do cheat back, you'd be just as bad as they are. All good things do come to an end. The cheaters will be caught, question is will you be on good or bad (cheater) side?

If you know they are cheating against you, the wise thing to do is not play with them or report them.

JDMcNugent7 02-18-06 03:24 PM

Ya it gives them an edge, and in turn takes a small edge away from me - but not a huge edge i dont think.
It would be one thing if they could get their 2 accounts together and chip dump them to one account, giving them an obvious advantage, but since this will rarely happen, I really don't think it takes away a large amount of edge from us. Really, its just he has 2 times the chance to win, but it's not like they can see my cards or anything. Sit them at my table and I still feel fairly confident against them.

Aequitas58 02-18-06 03:31 PM

No, I'm not saying cheating is right... but:

If I ever make serious money at poker like the top professionals, and cheating is the only way to do it, then I'll cheat. Only if, of course, I'm being cheated against. To begin with, this is gambling. Isn't it already morally wrong? If it's not, then who's to judge me and say that cheating is wrong?

Enough arguing about this - nothings going to come of it. I'm just presenting the other side. :) JJ got jacked for $180k, but he's got more. This isn't going to stop him or the other pros.

jillaj 02-18-06 03:37 PM

Here is a question for the moral police. Which do you feel is worse? "Cheating" by playing multiple accounts in the same tourney or doing something that is illegal by the laws of your state and country?

JDMcNugent7 02-18-06 03:44 PM

cheating by playing multiple accounts is very Obviously against the rules and as long as it is i will Never do it - i dont care how many other ppl are.

The whole poker thing being legal/ illegal is up in the air as I see it. I mean if major companies like Meryl Lynch and wutnot are investing millions into the stock of pokerstars - I don't see how it can technically still be illegal as of right now.
