Poker Terms Trivia....
Ok so I've been studying up on my Poker Terms and their meanings so that I'll better understand what the hell you guys are talking about when you're limping around... lol
I need you all to give me your best ones, & I'll try my best to give you the meaning of them to see if I fully understand them; maybe you can help me out if I'm wrong ;) As for the first one; I'll start with ...what I am at the present; Don't wanna be a "Shark" if I don't even know the meaning of it...so here it goes; tell me if I'm wrong about it. Ok I'm no shark in Poker.... but I'm one on here cus I post lots... SHARK: a good player who usually wins. A shark usually plays with a lot of n00bs (fish) & is only interested in winning money. Ok so now I need you all to help me out and give me some more Poker terms so I can see if I understand them. thx :) |
Limping: Say you're playing 10 handed NLHE. Small and Big blind post and the first player just calls the big blind (no raise). That's "limping" into a pot.
|
Okay. Quiz-Question 1: Define "cold-call."
|
Quiz Question #2
Define: big bet |
Quiz question #4...
Define: "swaness" |
This is by no means complete, but it's a good start for those that don't know common poker terms:
|
???? I don't see it on TP's list???
|
God damn, you academic types. That's like asking someone the meaning of life, RD.
|
player #1 bets, player #2 raises and player #3 calls two bets both the original bet and the raise??? is that right?>
watch out for that player |
Yeah, that might have been a bit too tough for this type of quiz. But I would like to see some of the answers we could come up with :D
|
lololol |
Define CUTOFF.
|
yes.
And if it's done in a 6-max limit game, I don't "watch out" for that player. I add him to my buddy list. |
The person who acts before the button.
|
Question:
What is the correct definition of a bad beat according to Phil Hellmuth. (Besides any hand that he loses too) Come on you WSOP TV watchers you can do it! |
not you meathead, lol. If you didnt know what the cutoff was then I would be worried.
|
Are we quizzing? I thought people were asking question they don't know the answers to. My bad. Seems kinda silly to ask questions that you already know the answer to though, doesn't it? I mean, unless someone is putting up prize money for correct answers or something (and no, I am not).
|
??
I thought the OP was asking others to post quiz questions that they could try to answer. |
Well, I don't really think it matters any more, now that she's left the forum and all.
|
that was quick, did she bleed you for anything lolol......
|
did i miss something?
|
Um, apparently so. HOW you could have missed it, I don't know, but here ya go:
And you call yourself a moderator. |
I viewed that thread but after the first few responses I don't think I reopened it (like the $50 dollar contest thread which I refuse to open ever again! ) ... apparently I missed all the dramam tho
|
A bad beat is when you were ahead preflop but ended up losing the hand correct?
|
Not IMO. It's based on when the money goes in, not the preflop cards.
But I have no idea what Hellmuth's definition would be. I'm guessing any hand he loses where he had the lead at ANY TIME during the hand would be a bad beat in his eyes. |
Haha, Hellmuth said if the person who was the underdog when the money went in and they won the pot then it was a bad beat. Interestingly enough several hands later he got his AK in against a PP, then hit his K and the PP rivered trips and he lost his shit.
|
When did the money go in?
|
I'm not absolutely sure I know what this means but this is what I think it is.
Let's say it's a preflop and someone raises the blind and I then call and raise. I'm making 2 bets. Tell me if I'm right or wrong please. Edit: oops didn't realize answer was already given. I just scrolled down to read the other posts. |
Well I'm back now; big snowstorm outside, going to 35 cm.
So post me some Poker terms for me to guess. |
I got one for all of you to guess....
A friend of mine told me about this one; who can guess what a TREPASSO is? |
FYI - and I should put this in the poker pet peeves thread - it's not possible to "Call and raise." They are two different actions. A call is a call and a raise is a raise. If you are playing and say, "call," don't expect to be able to raise after that, because you won't be able to.
So many people say this all the time, but you never hear anyone say, "I fold and call." |
hmm I know you can't call and raise; I should rephrase that. What I meant to say is I'm betting double; playing as if I were to call and then raise but all in one.
I'm not making sense am I :( Wait let me get the quote off someone who explained it much better than I did. Here ...he explains it much better. I'm just beginning to understand all these terms :( Originally Posted by jaeh00d player #1 bets, player #2 raises and player #3 calls two bets both the original bet and the raise??? is that right?> |
This is not the same thing.
What this says is: Bet, Raise, Call. Of course the amount of the call includes the raise (you can't call the first bet but not the second), but there is no such thing as this "call and raise" stuff, and all it does is confuse people who are trying to follow the action as it is described... |
Yes bad misuse of the words call and raise; they should never be used together. Thank you for clearing that up. My bad for using those two words together to mean something else. |
YES!!! That eneds to be added to my pet peeve list -- equally as annoying as someone saying they raise 50 (when it hasnt been bet yet) is "I call your 50.... and raise you another 50" THAT my friend, is a string bet since you're so eager to call them on me! That reminds me of one more "I call you all in" I dunno where to begin on this one :( |
