Heads Up - My new thing?

It's funny... I've always considered myself a pretty decent Heads Up player, but I have a TERRIBLE record against the people I've played here. I fired up Poker Stars a little while ago and decided to play in the $100 PL tourney. As you guys know, I'm always multitasking/multitabling... Well, today, I thought I'd try something new.

I decided to play a HU SNG while I was playing the tourney. I've never played one before and didn't know how tough the competition would be, so I didn't know what buy in to start it. I chose $50 to get my feet wet.

I took it down, and faily easily. So I decided to play another. I took that one down to, and even faster than the first. So I played another, and took it down too (this one was much tougher - lasted nearly 30 minutes).

We're approaching the first break in my PL tourney, and I'm 3/3 in these HU matches. I realize my sample size is nothing, but maybe this will be my new thing: While I'm playing in big MTTs, I'll play HU SNGs too.

Or maybe I'm just bored and felt like posting.

Do any of you play a lot of HU SNGs? How successful are you?

junYUN 10-18-05 05:23 PM

i used to play them a lot... but it was when i was a much weaker player. it's not really my "thing" but maybe i should start playing them to improve my HU play...

btw i love how $50 SNGs are "getting your feet wet" lol

Talking Poker 10-18-05 05:31 PM

I think I will play a few more (maybe 10 total), and see how I'm doing. If things are still going well, I'll move up to the $100 ones.

Back to work!

badblood44 10-18-05 05:48 PM

HU SNG's are great.

I can't multi-task though, I give them my full concentration. I just started them a couple of weeks ago and my record so far is 19-7. I did win 8 of my first 9, giving me a big ego however. My results have since come back to earth.

I figure if you can average 2-1, you're killing them.

jillaj 10-18-05 05:58 PM

I have always done well on these on stars as well, though at the 10 and 20 dollar level. Even though i have won 75% or more of them, for some reason they don't quite do it for me. If i play 2 or 3 in a row and win them i normally put it into a 30 sng or switch to cash games. I might try to play them for a couple hours one night and see what happens. I did watch my roomate win 15 consecutive 10 dollar ones one night. He then started to play the 20 dollar ones and lost it all back.

JDMcNugent7 10-18-05 06:00 PM

I used to play these ALL THE TIME - I used to keep track of records and in the $20+2 i had a 22-10 record and I don't consider myself all that good at heads up. They are fairly easy to make money at but they get pretty boring after awhile but if you can multi-task um that's great.

Talking Poker 10-18-05 06:39 PM

BadBlood - what level are you playing?

I'm now 5-1 lifetime in the $50 ones. I'm really enjoying these, but it's probably because I'm off to a good start.

Some of these guys have been fairly tough (2 were quite tough), but a couple have been complete tools too.

I think I also like that they are quick. I could probably pound out 100 of these in not too much time. I've only been playing one at a time so far, but I think I could handle 2 easily enough.

PShabi 10-18-05 07:28 PM

I'll play you on Bugsy's play money. Loser transfers $25 on Stars to the winner?

TP...

You should try the $20+2 NLHE HU tourney sometime... 1st place is $1380.

Talking Poker 10-18-05 10:09 PM

How many rounds do you need to get through? How long does it take? Stars, I assume?

badblood44 10-18-05 10:22 PM

It's funny, at $20 and below, I'm 6-5.

At $30 and above 13-4, with most at the $30 level. I mis-stated my overall record, it's 19-9.

I'm luckily 1-0 at both $50 and $100.

omahilo 10-18-05 10:27 PM

8 rds to win it and on stars... not sure how long, McNugent could give you a better idea on that.

JDMcNugent7 10-18-05 10:27 PM

TP i've played in these and cashed the last 2 weeks, theres one 128 max and one 256 max. I think u have to win 4 in a row to make the money - and it goes up pretty quick from there.

Zybomb 10-18-05 11:06 PM

Id be interested in playin in the next one of these if Im available. Maybe we can get a bunch of us in it (and hopefully not get paired with each other)

MAYHEM45 10-18-05 11:29 PM

Great Idea Zy. Im in for sure.

omahilo 10-18-05 11:30 PM

I would prolly play... let me know when.

Talking Poker 10-19-05 04:02 AM

I just logged my 10th HU SNG (all $50) for the day. I went 8-2 and had a 52% ROI.

It's "only" $275 net, but I guess that's pretty good, since I only risked $525.

Maybe I'll play 10 $100 ones tomorrow. We'll see.

PShabi 10-19-05 09:14 AM

I played one last week with 256.

I got some decent cards like the first 10 hands or so and was pushing homey around a lot early. So he gets top pair on a 9 high board with Ace kicker and I'm betting JJ. He decides enough is enough and pushes and I put him on that exact hand and take him out.

It was literally minutes.

But what sucked from there was I had to wait over 30 minutes for my next match to start.

Then, pretty much the exact same thing I described above happened except I was on the other end. :(

But yeah, I'm down to play these more often. Personally, I think I'm a motherfucker (in a good way) headsup.

Talking Poker 10-19-05 01:07 PM

I guess we're gonna need to have a go at one then, aren't we? Don't worry - I can't beat people from this forum for some reason.

Actually, maybe Bugsy is my problem...........

omahilo 10-19-05 01:16 PM

Yeah Bugsys poker is rigged

SirFWALGMan 10-19-05 02:53 PM

Hmm

Maybe the people in this forum are actually better players than the average person you find in a HU?

Talking Poker 10-19-05 03:11 PM

That's crazy talk. ;)

JDMcNugent7 10-19-05 04:54 PM

The last 2 i played i got 9th out of 128 the first one - just $51.
The second one was out of 256 and i got 7th - $179

The bad thing about these - the 128 one took almost 3 hours and the 256 one took close to 4!! - so u better have Alot of time - i usually play in some tournies or sumthin at the same time or play cash tables and take breaks when im waitin for the next round of the HU.

Talking Poker 10-21-05 08:13 PM

Ok boys... there is one starting in less than an hour. Let's do it:
