Freerolls are terrible
I decided to play a freeroll over at pacific because I was bored. So I get A9s, and I raise preflop. I get like 4 callers because everyone stays to the flop over at pacific. I flop 2 pair, and I bet- this guy that has gone in at least 3 times pushes em all so I call easily. We flip em over at the end, and you know what he gets? A straight- a to 5. He was holding 34o, and he called my raise pre-flop. What is that??
lol its a freeroll so that should give u your answer to any questions. If u plan on playing a freeroll better be prepared to get sucked out.
That's my point- I don't think I'll be playing too many of them.
I also saw 2 people go all in first hand- preflop lol... |
Freerolls, ah yes
Nothing like having to survive a 6-way all-in pot with KK against A-2, A-T, A-7, A-9 and 3-9 (hey they were suited). Of course you will catch your King on the river so you think you survived only to realize that the A-T just made his straight, of course you were the big stack at your table so you still have a few hundred chips left to knock out the remaining 6000 players.

hahaha
dont play freerolls.... the play on them is a disgrace to the game of poker
-jB |
lol freerolls always have aleast 2-3 allins 1st hand. I use to play them regularly when I first started playing to learn the basic of the game. even tho seeing 3-9s win pot after pot made me wonder lol
if you're new to poker you shouldnt play in them at all, playing freerolls makes you WORSE at poker.
-jB |
Freerolls are kinda crazy. You have to expect any player to play any two cards! Thats why the 1st hour of freerolls just sitout or play prem hands only. No need to slow play hands in most freerolls you will always get a call.
Agreed, don't waste your time with freerolls. Unless you come top 3, there really isn't a point, and they can drag for hours. This is why you will always see people going all-in first hand in one of them.
Just for kicks, I like to build a 3-4 thousand stack and then play like a maniac...
but....why? its like playing basketball with a bunch of 1st graders, but you can only shoot with 1 hand
You should see listen to them squeel!
You flash 2-8 offsuit at them after going all in on the turn of a board showing: Ac-Kc-10d-10c and no one calls.... they scream.... if you hit a hand with 5-10o/s and win they scream bloody murder..... It's hilarious! Doesn't cost you anything but time. Besides, I quit playing basketball with 1st graders because they always win... I think the tall one was on steroids. |
lol.... talk about disrespectin the game
I play freerolls to either try out new games (such as O8 on Planet) or to try out different styles of playing. If you enter them thinking you can beat the fishes that hold any crappy cards, you'll end up frustrated and pissed off.
I played a freeroll and this one guy was going all in everysingle hand, he actually go very lucky and lasted for a couple hours. He even eliminated me with a 4 7 offsuit to my AK, he got trip 4's. :(
I play freerolls a lot but I'll admit the play can be absolutely terrible. The worst two beats I can remember was a flush someone caught on the river after called a raise of 10XBB, 200, preflop with 2/4 suited another was a hand in which I went in with QJs, one caller had A5o. Flop A-K-10, he goes all in, I obviously call with my flopped straight. At this point he needs running A, 5, K, or 10s, or QJ to have a straight on the board. He caught the running kings.
I don't even like playing the freerolls anymore and when i do play them i will sit out for the first half hour or so. If i don't you always have nimrods doing stupid stuff and getting lucky ocasionally.
Standard freeroll play and live play as well. I raise in a card game, with AA, called me down with 26d and rivered a gutshot straight!
Runner runner straights or boats seem to be the daily special sometimes in freerolls.
hi
I dont know about free rolls being terrible I agree there not best place to make your skills known but I have made alot off freerolls i usually just sit back 1st hour and only play my painted cards and let the morons go all in. Then once I have a good chip lead I start pushing pushing pushing I did that this afternoon at jetset poker in a qualifier with the buyin being frequent player points field I think was about 150. Had to sit out with 27 people left me in 8th place and the cut being 18th place top 18 players got invite into money torney hopefully I made it pretty sure I did but I have made alot of money on freerolls my advice is just let the morons do there thing then just outplay the rest of the feild its not hard.
Freerolls aren't completely bad.
Just have to wait out the idiots until they go bust. After the first rush 15-20 minutes play settles down quite a bit. It's a good way to get a lot of hands in. |
Just an update. Just finished 90th out of 7587 on Piggs Peak Freeroll.
I won $1.33 I'm reeech!! After the 1st hour everyone played tight. |
hi
I was in that one today but at the time I was in 2 freerolls on bugsbys and another on jetset and that one so had 4 going at once so couldnt really concentrate on it no idea what I finished but im sure it wasnt that great playing 4. |
Multitabling freerolls so much that you really couldn't even concentrate... what's the point?
this is my point
with all the morons I expected to get some bad beats and not be involved in all 4 at once unfortantly my good hands held up and I lasted with all 4 then I got aggravated with the 7000+ people in the pigs one so just sat it out. Im broke right now so cant play for real money. I really only like playing tables in real in life and sticking to tonaments online (free rolls are great practice) players actully get pretty good after 1st hour. |
In freerolls the game gets better as the tourney progresses, at the beginning there are alot of maniacs.
The only FR's I thought were good, are the ones on Prima, where you need a raked hand requirement to get in. those are good, seems like the player value the play much more, and there are several hundred players, not several thousand.
Before I started playing cash games on PS, I would do their freeroll at midnight pacific time. At the time, I thought it was great experience and yadda yadda yadda.
Then after playing real money for a few weeks, while doing the occasional freeroll, I started to realize just how much of a time waster these are. I'd just get sooo bored and go all in every hand after getting a large stack :). Cheers, Gutzz |
freeroll strat
sit out the first 20 min let the crazys get out.
only freerolls i play are player points freerolls where the prize money is better and the field is lower.
freerolls
I play the pokerromm freeroll won 12$ today wohoo
The freerolls on Pokerstars must be one of the biggest waste of time. YOu have to beat a field of a few thousand to make the final table, just to get a chance to enter another tourney of a few hundred, in order to win a few bucks. Seems like a lot of work to me.
Waste of Time.
I think their freerolls are capped at 6000 (at least the "Hubble" ones). Like you said, you win a seat in another tournament where first place is $100. The cool thing about Stars is that they are having this MEGA Freeroll (12/26) w/ $100,000. First place is $20k, and 270 places are paid.
True the stars one's are a complete waste of space.
Lou do you know any of the details on Stars' mega freeroll on the 26th? When does registration start and is the field capped, and do you know if theres any raked hand requirement for entering.
The Stars Hubble freerolls are bad, but has anyone here played in AbsolutePoker's $25 freerolls? These are ridiculous on a few aspects. Only the top 5 out of a capped field of 1500 get paid. And what makes even less sense, at least to me, is that 1-5 all get the same amount, $5. It just doesn't seem very logical to me.
Now as far as bad beats go, this is the bad beat forum after all, I just had one put on me in one of the said AP freerolls. Blinds are 20/40, I have roughly 2300 in chips. Folded around to me on the button. I try to steal the blinds with Q8o by tripling the bet, SB folds, BB calls. BB at this point has over 2000, 140 less than me to be exact. Flop comes K68, BB bets 40, I call with middle pair. Turn comes 8, giving me trip 8s, he bets 40 again, I raise to 600, he pushes in, I call. He flips over K3, sure enough the river is one of his two outs, and my 8s full of Ks boat is beat by a Ks full of 8s boat. |
that sucks.... why are you trying to steal blinds when they are so low though? you have to raise more than 3x the blind to get someone off of almost any hand, because it is so inexpensive to call. the amount of money it takes to steal at such a low level isnt worth the money youre trying to steal. i wouldnt try stealing at all until the blinds are at least 25/50... just personal opinion though.
