Windsor Trip
I thought this would be the best way to communicate with all parties.
Primary audience: RobbieRob, Nikita, Mayhem Secondary Audience: Anyone who wants to come (and because I don't remember where everyone lives.) Hi all, As per our prior PM's, I looked at the calendar for a good day for a trip to Casino Windsor. I think Mayhem said early July was better, and Rob and Nikita have to make it a weekend thing. So, I was thinking about one of the following... 1. Saturday, July 14 2. Sunday, July 15 3. Sunday, July 8 I know for certain that I am clear on these dates. Rob and Nikita, would drive down and back in the same day, or are you going to saty overnight? Let me know what you think. |
The 8th is out for me for sure, I work that day. The 14th and 15th are both fine I won't be working that week-end. And yeah, Rob and I will probably be only making it a day trip.
Okay, so the 14th and 15th are good so far. I am thinking the Saturday is better, just in case the night goes any longer than anticipated.
Yeah, the 14th is probably best then. That way, if it does run a little late then no one is all bleary-eyed at work.
I might be able to pop down for this, but only saturday - it's a 4 hour driver for me.
Okay, we'll put down the 14th as the date. Just waiting to hear back from Mayhem
De-coder, that would be great if you could come down too! |
14th sounds good.
I should fly up. It's a longshot, but you never know with me.
You guys should PM MathBabe too - she's certainly not on here much lately, but RR/N1k met her (and husband) last year, and they might be up for the trip as well. |
That would be very, very, wicked. I'll look up mathbabe and send the message.
She live about 2 minutes from me, but she hasn't been around much. I'll let her know about the trip.
Hmm, I forgot about the engineering paintball game all day on the 14th. If I meet up itll be later on in the nite, unless we can swing something for sunday.
Sunday would work for me, I would like to let that call rest with our long distance travellers.
I think for me it would have to be saturday - come in, stay overnight, go home sunday.
Yeah saturday nite still works for me, as long as you old farts dont like to go to bed early, lol
Yeah, but when does the "night" start for a young buck like you?
Saturday definitely works best for both of us as well. We can come down early and stay relatively late (as in leave Windsor around 10pm or so).
Let's stick to Saturday then.
Hey guys;
Thanks for letting me know about this. Unfortunately I have a wedding on the 14th, but if I didn't, I would have definitely come out for this! We took a trip to Casino Niagara earlier this spring, and if I hadn't been card dead the first two hours I would have cleaned up. The live games there are so much better than online... I had no idea. I read on casino windsor's website that they have daily tournaments (of varying buy ins). This interested me very much considering i am not of legal age in america to play live and would like to go up some time. Has anyone ever played in these? If so, how are they? also, if uve been to casino windsor in general how is the poker there?
I have played in a few. Somedays are $50 and others are $100, but I forget which. The tournament is limited to 60 people and starts around 10 am. You get 2000 in chips and the blinds start at 25/50. For the first hour, the levels are 20 minutes, and then 30 minutes after that. The top 5 or 6 are paid.
During the summer, when the schools are out (US and Canadian), there is a line up for registration. The lineup starts at 8 and the registration starts at 9. If you are in a ring game, they will pre-register you starting shortly after 8 (normally). The $50 days fill up fast. These tournaments are Monday to Friday SNG's start up in the late afternoon and run everyday of the week. Stud and Omaha on demand, but there is a 1/2 (100 max) NLH game going 24/7. Last time I was there, the games were raked. There is a higher NLH game, but I can't remembe the blinds. |
Food
We will have a few good choices for food on the 14th. There is an all you can eat buffet in the Casino that will blow your mind. It can get pretty busy there though.
There is a Keg Steakhouse down the street that is excellent. I was there the other night and nearly wet my pants over the appetizer. I promise to control myself if we go there during the trip ;) |
Nikki & I are kinda leaning toward the casino buffet. Busy-schmusy :)
casino buffet sounds fine to me too - closer to the tables...
Oh - I better get my ass booked into a room somewhere... |
Buffet
Good call. You are going to love the food.
Personally, I am looking forward to taking all of Mr. "Big Cash" Mayhem's chips in a SNG.;) (that is, after I beat his "worm" high score) |
Once you know when you are getting into town, let me know. We can set up a place to meet before we rain down unholy hell on the poker room
I check in around 3pm on saturday. I can get in a little earlierthan that maybe, but I've got a b-day party the night before so I won't be leaving too early
We can get in pretty much at anytime after about noon. We just gotta drop the kid off and away we go! We'll nail down a more exact time as the weekend gets a little closer.
Are you staying at the Casino?
No, I'm in a motel about 7-10 minutes away. If I do well that night I'll upgrade
crash the party
ya know,
It's not to late for some of you high rollin' men-o-means to hop a jet up "south" to Windsor and crash our little party! |
So I think we're looking at getting down there around 1-ish.
Meeting up
I will go by the bar in the main foyer around 2 pm. We can hang out and wait for decoder or go upstairs to the poker room. Mrs. Invig will be joining us around 5ish. She's more of a video poker and buffet player.
Alternate timing suggestions? let me know. Mayhem, when do you think you might be joining up with us? |
I have a birthday party to go to tonight, but I'm going to try and get out of here by 10am at the latest so I should get to the casino by 2:30. I'll look for you guys at the bar.
Well theres no way I can go play paintball, since I'm still confined to crutches, lol. I kinda climbed a civil engineering statue on campus after a few beverages last weekend and the top part of it broke off with me on it. My right foot is still the size of a watermelon. I'm thinking of playing the morning MTT so i should be there all day. If I decide to sleep in, I'll be there early afternoonish.
I didn't think they ran those tournaments on the weekends. Sweet. |
Awesomer.
Its a $110 buyin tomorrow and starts at 10am if your interested. I think the cap is 60 players.
I'll be there if I can make it. I'll PM my cell number.
I think you have to register at 9am. might be too early for me, but we'll see.
Def too early, got to bed at like 5am cuz I'm a crackhead. Woke up at 8 and said no way. I'll be there soon, hopefully you guys are at the poker room.

Preliminary report
Well, we hooked up at Casino Windsor with no problems. Finding each other was easy (you'll have to wait for the pictures to see why).
On a whole I had great time. It was fun to finally meet people from the forum. Mayhem, Robbie Rob, Nikita, De-coder and Mrs. Invig made up the party. The waiting lists were long, but we started a SNG list around 3 (tournament started at 8:15 because they were waiting for a new shift of dealers). Much more sitting than going. De-coder, Mahem and I got in on different 1/2 games and I don't think any of us posted a profit. (don't hold me to that, but I know I was down). The play at my table was psychotic, but I was card dead the entire time. We hit the buffet, which I liked but I am easy to please. Prime rib, sushi, kabobs, chinese, and all-you can eat soft serve ice cream. When we finally got into the tournament it was $50+10. All of us were in and drew seats a row:rolleyes:. The shuffler was down, so the 15 minute levels with doubling blinds kind of felt like a turbo. Top 3 paid (300-150-50) which kind of sucks for 3rd b/c cashing becomes a net loss. I'll let others tell their favourite hands, but I ended up winning and Mrs. Invig finished third. I could not get callers with AK or KK, but crippled the Mrs. with 88 when I shoved a 333 flop. She put me on a bluff (I tend play like a maniac against her), and called with A9 and did not improve. Heads up, the guy wanted to chop but I really wanted to play it out, having never been heads up at a casino before. I doubled him up when I ran into his AK on a K high flop against my KQ. A few hands later I crippled him when my KJ rivered a K high straight. He had less than 2 BB after posting for the next hand, so I pushed from the SB with Jh8h, and he reluctantly called with J4 off. no 4 came  This is my first casino SNG and first casino tournament cash. I was pretty happy. Nikki, Robbie and I played some slots after that, and the party broke up from there. Thanks again for coming guys and gals. Sorry the action wasn't better, but I had a great time. The Mrs. and I really enjoyed getting to spend some time with you. Robbie, I owe you a beer bud. Let me know what you drink, and I'll bring some up in August. Toodles Edit: at dinner I revealed some of my secret strategies for Swingball. I am going to play around with the video feature and try to make a swingball movie. |
Nice report. Glad to hear Mayhem sobered up and you guys had fun.
As for swingball, I'd love to see a video - cool idea! Whop says our videos need to be about poker only? Maybe I'll teach you girls how to play Tetris sometime. BTW - there are other "Cureveball" games out there - basically the same game, but slightly different. Would you like me to install another for you? Maybe the original with the black background and green lines that show the 3D? I found that one after Swingball, but I know I like it better, and there's no reason you can't dominate that game too! |
I don't really find and serious difference in game play between the versions. Curving the serve on this one is a lttle bit harder, so I like that. I wouldn't bother with another version, but thanks.
Who should feel more insulted?
Forgot to tell this one earlier. When we got down to about 5 or 6 handed, the guy I eventually got heads up with asked me if I knew Mrs. Invig. I said "yeah, we're married". Then he asked the Mrs. if Mayhem was our son. She said no, I said yes, Mayhem just shook his head.

I call this one "SOMEBODY didnt' get memo!
Edit: If you don't already know these people, play the who's who game in this thread. |
Well, my favourite hand of the trip was my last one. Blinds are at 200/400 at this point and I'm on the button with 625 behind. Mayhem's UTG with 600 in chips and Nikki's the BB. Mayhem sticks his 600 in. I'd already pretty much decided I was going in with any paint/PP/connector/1gapper/etc. Folds to me and I see KQo. Works for me. I "re-raise" all-in for the whopping extra 25 chips. Nikki hasn't even looked at her cards and calls, creating a 50 side pot. Mayhem flips over T2o, I flip the KQo and Nikki flips....25o. Flop helps no one (indirectly helping me of course) but naturally the turn is a deuce. River's a blank and Mayhem triples up and Nikki knocks me out of the tourney.
The second most satisfying hand of the game was one I wasn't even involved in. This grumpy old guy was to Mayhem's left and was constantly griping about calling with QTo. When he left a sense of peace and silence came over the table. That was actually the only poker we played as some unexpected expenses this past week seriously cut down on our ready cash so while the others managed to get in some cash games we passed on that this trip but I'm definitely looking forward to playing some $100NL on the next trip. While, as Invig, wrote, there was definitely more sitting than going we had a great time, getting back into London around 1:30 and quickly hitting the sack. Now we've got the August home game to look forward to where it looks like Invig and the Mrs. are going to be making the trip up to join us. Anyone else in the Ontario region is more than welcome to come play as well! (well, TECHNICALLY, ANYONE on the forum has a standing invitation to come play but I think it would be a little ridiculous to fly up to London for a $10 home game...) |
I imagine that "ridiculous" is not a barrier for some people. London has an international airport donesn't it?
I had a blast. I went up to play some poker, but the main reason for going was to meet some fellow TPers.
I think the 52o hand Rob posted was pretty great as well. I was hoping to make money on the SNG, but with such a fast moving blind structure, it became push or fold time really quick. I'm happy with my bubble finish. And I actually made some money off the slots, but then I made less than what Rob lost, but meh it was all for fun anyway. |
That's fantastic.
