WSOP 2007 - General Updates...
We have a number of threads about TP peeps and the 2007 WSOP already...
- - - - - - (I'll try to keep this list updates as new threads are created) ...but a lot of those are getting really cluttered and we don't really have one for general updates yet. So - we do now. Post away, Vegas boys. |
I'll start...
After sorting out my here earlier today, I grabbed a bite to eat, bought some ridicullously overpriced groceries, and then headed over to the Rio. I met up with New Guy shortly after I got there, and before I knew it, we were sitting in a $2/$5 NL cash game. I don't even remember what time it was.... maybe 4:00? I don't think I left my chair until 9:00 when I finally got up and went to grab something to eat. New Guy left the game right around then to head back to L.A. for a few days (he'll be back). When I left the table my stack was around $2200, I think. I had reloaded for a couple hundred in the beginning, so I was in for $700. Nice. After dinner, I ran ridiculously cold and gave some back (I literaly did not scoop a single pot - not even the blinds - for an hour and a half), but I still left the table up over a grand over all when I quit. Finally, a good session. The thing is though, I felt like I was playing GREAT poker. New Guy was there for a lot of it, but without seeing my hole cards, he doesn't know the whole story. I pulled off some SICK bluffs and I made a few (4 or 5?) really big laydowns. Folding JJ when I KNEW my opponent had QQ on a T high board (he had exactly QQ), folding TPTK when I KNEW my opponent hit his straight on the turn (he showed it), folding flopped trip Ts vs. New Guy when I KNEW he had a T with a bigger kicker (he did), and so on. It felt pretty good to be that in tune with my opponents. I also ran pretty good for a short period there. I had AA twice all day, but they came about 5 minutes apart - won smallish pots with them both times. My biggest hand was when I won $10 from New Guy on an all black flop (boo-yah!) and flopped he nuts (broadway) at the same time. I led out, a dude raise, New Guy flat called (with a pair + nut flush draw), I reraised, dude shoved, New Guy though and then folded, my hand held up and I scooped a BIG pot. Ballers Mayhem and sjay were partying it up at the Bellagio all day, but stopped by just as I was playing my last orbit. I think they were out past 6 AM against last night. Oh man, these kids today - I'll tell ya! No firm plans for tomorrow yet... I'm leaning towards playing in a $540 tourney at the Venetian on Wednesday though, and then Thursday is the 6 man NLHE WSOP Event that I've been looking forward to for about a year. Time for sleep. |
I decided to take today off from playing poker. So right now, I'm doing laundry instead. :o
I'm going to go out to dinner with some friends tonight and then swing by the Rio and see how sjay and Mayhem are doing in the Limit O8 event tonight. Slackers didn't even post that they are playing in it, but they are......... I also found the schedule for tourneys at the Venetian. I think I'm going to play in one or possibly two of those instead of the $1500 WSOP event that I was considering playing on Saturday. They have a $1060 on Friday ($10k starting chips - 25/50 blinds to start - great structure), and a $540 on Saturday. I think I'd rather play in both of those than the WSOP crapshoot on Saturday. I'm gonna play it by ear, depending on how the 6 man tourney goes on Thursday. |
TP's playing what I assume is a 2/5 cash game. Guess who just stopped by to say, "hello?"
A) Wes B) Boobie Lover C) The Storm D) Salazarrrrrrr E) All of the above |

weee, i just +repped shabi!!!
i feel good, i knew that i would now, so good, so good, that i +repped you bah bah bah bah. Wonder if TP hit him? |
did Mayhem and Sjay make it to day 2 in the O8 event?
|
sjay busted and last report was May was still in it at Todd Brunson's table.
|
Clearly the answer is E... must have been distracting having that many "people" stopping by.
|
There were actually another dozen or so as well - you guys just don't know all of their names.
I was surprised to see him, since I'm pretty sure he's like 19 or 20, right? Basically, he just came over and said hello, so I said hello back - no hitting. He said he got here a couple of days ago and will be here until August, so I'm sure he and shabi will have plenty of time to go drinking. Because he's underage, I assume he'll be sticking to the cash games. I don't know what he was playing, but I saw him cashing out about 3 racks or red ($1500) later in the night. As for me.... I ended up playing for about 6 hours, until like 4:30 AM local time. I was again playing well, but I did make two calls that I shouldn't have. I knew better, but called anyway. Ran pretty crappy overall for the session, and finished down about $300. considering those two bad calls alone cost me about that much, I'm happy to have been able to break even the rest of the night. Reads were very solid all night, once again. My problem with the two calls I made was going with my brain ("he couldn't have REALLY hit that, could he?") instead of my gut that knew right where I stood in the hand. I was planning on leaving about 2 hours earlier, but the later it got, the more shorthanded we played, which is definitely an edge for me. And some drunk guy came and sat at the table too,so I just couldn't resist. Naturally, he was a drunked card rack. I'm doing nothng today - might play cash game for a while later, but I'm calling it an early night tonight, as I have the 6 man event tomorrow and I want to be fully rested. None of this going to bed when the sun is up crap. sjay and mayhem can do that and still play well, but I'm way too old. :) |
Wont be around all that much the next two weeks or so. Going home to Boston for a visit, about 11 days. I will be checking in a bit, so I will be able to get some updates.
But, just wanted to say best of luck to all you guys at WSOP. Continue to pwn and make us all proud. |
Must be nice..... wish I could say the same |
Soooooooooooooooooooooo............. I bought a today.
That is all. |
GANGSTER
|
What are you talking about? I was clearly not Salazarrrrrrrrr as he is a god living among men. All I can say to his honor is.....
SALAD BARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR |
I was playing the 2/5 game with a 500 cap buyin and I did cash out with 1568 in chips to end it, but still ended up even. I am staying in Vegas with a couple 2+2ers here in a house till August.
|
And yeah Mr. Shabeeyyyyy, you can buy me drinks or some other drugs if you still want to hook me up like that.
|
TP- nice digs. I guess live play is going to become a bigger part of your poker life?
Wes- a big glass of water and couple aspirin before you go to bed will help with the hangovers. |
Haven't been on the comptuer much, so sorry for lack of updates.
The night before the 2k event, mayhem, Vos and I went out drinking and trolling for girls. We ended up going to the venetian and decided to f--- around in a 1/2 game. Mark is raising to 20 or 30 nearly every hand and owning everyone postflop. the most ridiculous bluffs and value bets, it was really something to watch. he won 10 buyins in two hours playing 95/70 style poker. the whole table was on tilt. we were all really drunk and laughing the whole time. one guy got really pissed off and told mark never to come back to this game. a nit was calling mark a donkey. then we ran through the fountain outside Caesars at like 6am. we woke up an hour before the event and caught a cab to the Rio. A $1000 Rio chip fell out of my pocket in the cab, which tilted me badly. nearly as badly as getting 11 hours deep in the tournament when i would have cashed in another hour or two. just before i busted, i was talking to this young guy at my table. "Are you Australian?" "yeah" "Were you at the Venetian last night?" lololol |
yesterday in the 2k event, it's folded to me in the SB and i shove with 45o. the girl in the BB tanks, saying how she really should call consdiering pot odds etc.
then Kathy Liebert (sitting on my right) says "c'mon don't bust all the cute boys" BRAG ps she folded |
so - who's playing in what next?
|
I think some of the boys are playing in the shorthanded tourney that started today.
|
Just saw the updates in the railbird thread... Sorry to hear TP!
|
You bagged that hippo later that night did't you... c'mon it's OK, you know you want to tell us.
|
Sorry for the lack of regular updates from me, but its hard to get everything down when I only have 20 minutes here and there to check in. I'll write up a full trip report of all 8 days I was here when I wake up in my own bed saturday morning.
|
Hold your breath.
|
I would have loved to have seen that $1/2 game. Winning 10 buy ins playing 95/70... that's just awesome.
Sucks about the $1000 chip. Some tourist is going to be awfully lucky. |
Played in today. It sucked. In the beginning, I erred on the passive side a little bit, but I certainly don't think I played badly at all. To give you an example, I opened from the CO with AJo, Jeff Madsen reraised (to what amounted to about 20% of our stacks), and I folded - that sort of thing. I was moved to three different tables in the span of 4 minutes at one point, which is pretty annoying. Then I was card dead. Then I ran into bigger hands. Then I was out.
I know it's just poker and how it works, but it's frustrating when you're as psyched as I was and playing as well as I have been when you feel like you didn't even have a chance, ya know? Bah. After that, I sat down in a $5/10 game for a while. , I ended up down a little bit - not much. After that, I grabbed a bite to eat and just relaxed outside for a while. Then I stood in the satellite (SNGs, basically) line. They were filling a $325 when I got to the front, so I bought into that. Early on, my JJ sucked out on a VERY short stacked KK's all in. It was cool how the hand went down: He shoves, I call. Flop is KTx. I say, "OK, give me a Queen." Turn is a Queen. I say, "Cool, now give me an Ace." River is a 9. Meh, close enough. The moral of the story is I can't seem to win lately when I get my money in good, so maybe I should start getting it in bad more often! When we got down to three players, we agreed to give whoever finished third his money back. A couple of hands later, with big blinds, the button (who BARELY had me covered) shoved. I look down and see As7s. I think for a bit and decide to fold. The BB calls and flips up KK. The button shows KQ. Naturally, the flop comes 7xx with 2 spades and the turn AND river are both spades.... If only I would have taken my own advice. So, heads up, we decided to chop what's left of the prize pool. He has me outchipped something like 11k-4k, and we agreed to split the remaining $2800, $1700/$1100. I'll take it. As for what's next........... I'm going to play in tomorrow. Rather than feel confident and psyched and feel really good about my game, I'm going to go on record saying I feel terrible, I'm dreading this tourney, I hate the structure, and I'll probably be out really early. Yeah, that's the ticket. |
who else is playing in today or tomorrow?
|
Chillin in the airport waiting for my flight home. Kinda bittersweet, missing my friends and home, but I know as soon as the plane takes off ill wanna turn around and come back. Way too much good times down here, thanks again everyone, it was really cool finally putting faces to names and hanging out with all of you. I'm sure we'll all meet up again sometime. I'm trying to get my busto friends to come down with me for a weekend sometime this summer, one vegas trip a year isnt enough!

Omgomgomgomg
This is way cool. My home newspaper. Third paragraph down.
|
Cool beans dude!
I'll be coming to vegas in november. It's "business" trip but I plan on having some fun while I'm there. I'll be there from the 11th to the 17th. |
Dude, if that's in the print version too, I want it autographed this summer so I can put it up on my poker wall! Edit: I'll bring to you Mr. Superstar ;) |
Way cool -- but you live in too small of a town if that made the paper@! :D
Edit: I also love how they say AND OUTLASTED DANIEL N! |
Thats awsome. Was great meeting you as well. You need to post some of those pics I shot.

Windsor and Poker
Windsor has population of just over 300,000 as of the 2001 national census. The paper likely picked up on the Daniel N. bit because it runs his column in the Saturday edition. The Windsor area poker scene is developing. There is an addition going on the Casino Windsor, which also happens to be a Harrah's property. There is a lot of potential here, but the big road blocks are the upper management of the poker room who don't seem interested in doing anything othger than day to day business, and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission, that is making charity tournaments outside of a Casino pretty bloody difficult. I am really hoping that once the convention center addition is complete we might see a WSOP Cirucuit event her in the next 2-4 years. |
She was actually really nice to talk to and gave me some donkament tips along the way. |
LOL at this part: As if that means anything. Cool beans though. You're famous. That said, talk to me when you have - ahem - TWO WSOP final tables under your belt. |
So.................
I've played in three big tourneys and have cashed in 0. I really feel like I've been palying very good poker, which makes it extra frustrating, but what can you do? That's just how poker works. 3 tourneys is most definitely not the long run, ya know? There is a $540 deepstack event at the Venetian again tomorrow. I kind of want to play (because I love the structure so much), but I kind of don't. I dunno.... I'm not sure what I'd do instead, but right now, sleeping in until I wake up, hanging out by the pool for a while, and maybe even hitting the gym here sounds pretty darn good to me. Also, when I bumped into herschelw tonight, he invited me over to his place in Henderson to play some online poker tomorrow afternoon/evening. He's staying with a couple of other solid players, so not only do I think that might be fun, but railing him in real time could be good for my game too. So I might do that. P.S. I really hate how I have to come to the lobby to get online here. The phone has been ringing off the hook for the last hour and for some reason, the THREE people "working" won't answer it. WTF? |
gen Watching hersch 12 table
TP says:
Watching hersch 12 table on 3 monitors is really something. lol - he just flopped quads AGAIN... this time against aa AND kk. |
I'm at herschelw's place right now, railing his nightly tourneys. Watching him play too closely makes me nautious (so... many... tables!!!) so I thought I'd take a break and catch up on the forum on his laptop.
I'll post a pic of his set up shortly. It's sweet, down to the pile of loose hundreds next to his mouse pad. |

Because sometimes, 11 tables just isn't enough......
|
Thats insane!! I love it
|
SNGs or cash games?
|
That's sick.
|
Nice hat.
|
8-tabling 6max cash is harder than 12 tabling MTTs and/or SNGs
|
obv
|
if they don't overlap, how do u know when it's your turn? sometimes isn't it really hard to tell.
I have 2 monitors set up now, but last time i played, i 12 tabled all on my 17" cuz i can't tell when it's my turn if they dont overlap |
I time out occasionally with 2 20'' if I'm 8-tabling due to not focusing on that table, but it is definitely better than staring at those tiny ass tables with a 17'' laptop. I can't even make out the stack sizes sometimes with those small of tables, let alone pokerace #s.
