Reel Deal 07-31-06 06:49 PM

I think it's something like this. I meant to post this yesterday, while you were still playing, but I forgot.
Hey, when you're on, you're on ...

Thorsson Eliminates Another
William Thorsson raises to $700 from the cut off and the button re-raises to $1,200. The small blind makes a third raises to $3,500. Thorsson re-raises $7,000 more and the small blind calls. The flop comes A22 and the small blind checks and Thorsson moves all-in for $100,000. The small blind makes the call after 2 minutes of deliberation and shows K-K. Thorsson taps the table and says "Wow," and sheepishly shows his 75. The turn is a 3 and the river a 4 giving Thorsson the wheel. Thorsson now sits with $125,000.

Talking Poker 08-01-06 02:30 AM

That is sick. That dude must have one hell of a table image to have gotten that call.

Dodoubled 08-01-06 02:53 AM

I count 6 former champs still hanging around on 1D. Varkonyi, Hachem and Huck Seed look decent, and Moneymaker's at 20 grand. Amarillo Slim and Johnny Chan are both below the buy-in, hanging on for dear life.

Quint 08-01-06 08:12 AM

You forgot Raymer and his 50,000 stack.

Edited to add: Just read the updates from last night. Chan and Moneymaker are out. 8,773 is the official attendance for this years main event.

Dodoubled 08-01-06 08:39 AM

Sorry ... I was just mentioning last night's players. I think Raymer was on Mark's (or TP's, Bruce Wayne's Clark Kent's, however he wants to be referred to on this forum) night, right?

Robbie Robb 08-01-06 08:44 PM

And it's just been announced: The winner will walk away with $12,000,000. The next 11 players will also become millionaires (if they're not already).

omahilo 08-04-06 09:29 PM

Insane...

It was just announced that we lost 140 players in 15 minutes of play following the money bubble bursting.

NUTS!!

Talking Poker 08-07-06 02:22 AM

Is Alan Cunningham the only "big name" left? I think he is.

With only 46 players left, we are WAY ahead of schedule... Crazy.

jaeh00d 08-07-06 02:49 AM

i thought it was pretty cool to see that richard gryko the actor went out in 50th place. and i am pretty sure the other big name out there is humberto brenes, then agasin he might have already busted out.

omahilo 08-07-06 03:09 AM

Jeffery Lisandro and Prahlad Friedman are left as well...

yes it is way ahead of schedule...

they said its been alot of allin preflop coin flip situations, so people are just pushing in and praying, not really much poker playing from what I hear.

jaeh00d 08-07-06 04:04 AM

thats just said, that really takes away from the game.

Robbie Robb 08-07-06 07:35 AM

Interesting question

So now that we're waaaay ahead of schedule (well okay, apparently we're only one day ahead of schedule as they're planning on playing down to 27 players today - it's gonna be a short day I think as there are only 45 players left) as we trudge towards the final table, does anyone have any confirmed knowledge of what the plan is? What made me think about this is that I just saw a commercial for Bell ExpressVu's (our equivalent to Dish Network) PPV service where they're showing the final table of WSOP for $24.99CAD starting Thursday @ 5pm. Does this mean that the players will get a day off before final table? I can't see them changing the date/time of FT because of this live PPV thing.

Reel Deal 08-07-06 10:17 AM

Not a "huge name" but Humberto Brenes is still in it.

Talking Poker 08-08-06 04:12 PM

I still can't believe how far ahead of schedule they are... They got down to 27 while I was playing last night - BEFORE out dinner break, as I recall. That's a full day and a half ahead of schedule. I heard they may play to 9 today and give the players off tomorrow, but that was still undecided when I left. With the FT being PPV, I don't see them changing it, and the off day makes the most sense. Make sure everyone is well rested.

omahilo 08-08-06 05:54 PM

Prahlad Friedman has just been busted 21st...

Allen Cunningham is 2nd in chips with 13 million... I think he has a real chance of winning the whole thing.

I would love to see a pro win this event to tell you the truth.

Talking Poker 08-08-06 05:55 PM

Whoa! Alan Cunningham was short stacked the last time I saw him... he's second in chips with almost 12 million right now! That's twice as many as third place has...

And then there were 19.

Talking Poker 08-08-06 05:56 PM

Me too.... And no one can say anything bad about Alan, so I'm rooting for him. He's a bit quieter than some of our recent Main Event winners, but I think he'd make an excellent chamption.

omahilo 08-08-06 06:04 PM

Hes VERY underrated, he cashes aleast 5 or 6 times every WSOP and is very good.

He doesnt get the respect that he deserves, all that will change tho if he takes this down.

Tony Cheval 08-08-06 06:05 PM

Indeed, and would be nice to see an established pro make it through this jungle.

Also, nice sig TP.

lightfungus 08-08-06 06:21 PM

I think anyone getting to this point in the tourney gets some cred, but if he wins it will be the single largest accomplishment of any player in poker history...8700+ requires an anti-donkey tank and some forizzle skills, hope he wins.

Robbie Robb 08-08-06 06:40 PM

To be honest, I'd never heard of him (to the best of my knowledge - I MAY have seen him play on TV but just don't remember) until TP had him picked for that event he won - thus propelling TP FAR into the lead in the league.

But I've been watching him and he's done well in almost every (if not every) event he's played this year. So yeah, I'm rootin' for him too!

Plus, I haven't checked the people ahead of TP in the league, but if Cunningham wins this, TP could very well WIN the FTP fantasy league!!!!

Talking Poker 08-08-06 07:20 PM

I have Cunningham in my A Group, but so does the guy it first place, meaning I can't pass him. I may get a Top 10 overall finish though, depending on who everyone else selected, and that's pretty cool considering the size of the field. 4000+, right?
