Unlike everyone else I dont see this *experiment* as that bad as long as

-- You realize what exactly this is - an experiment

-- The money lost is money that you can simply lose and not be affected by

-- You realize are here straight GAMBLING and not playing a skill game while tilting the odds in your favor

Personally, Id be in favor of stickin it on Red (or black if you prefer) and seeing how long it rides.... but either way

Gordogg 10-25-05 01:41 AM

Well put Zybomb. I agree 100%.

Tony Cheval 10-25-05 01:45 AM

Actually...

The funny thing about this is, I already beat him to the first part of his 'experiment' (see my 2 UB Railbird Me threads from last week). :D

I have no interest in playing 30/60 myself, though I did pretty much throw away $44 in two SNGs this morning, think I'll stick to tournies where I have the time to catch a good hand before the donkeys elect a leader to coinflip me to death.

johnp158 10-25-05 01:51 AM

Good point. It would be different if you were proposing this as a surefire money-making scheme. It's definitely your choice. Good luck.

Talking Poker 10-25-05 03:30 AM

For the record, I have no problem at all with the plan or the gamble or whatever you want to call it.

My problem with this is losing $300 and then saying to yourself "Well, I only lost $5." No....... you lost $300. As soon as you HAD that $300 (which you currently do not, but let's assume you do get it), then it is your money. And when you lose it, it doesn't matter where it came from - it was still worth $300.

No, I don't think of car and house payments when I am playing poker, but when I lose, I don't pretend that it was money I didn't have.

If I won $1 million in Aruba and then lost $900,000 of it playing craps, while my net win for the trip was still $100,000, the fact remains that I lost $900,000 playing craps.

The betting on red thing is a good example. Let's just say you make a $25 bet on red, and you win. Now you've got $50. And you have 2 choices: Bet it or don't bet it. If you bet it an win, you now have $100. Same decision. So you let it ride and double up again to $200. You win a few more times too and the stack in front of you keeps growing:
$400
$800
$1600
$3200
$6400
$12,800
$25,600

At this point, you are feeling pretty good... in fact, you feel like you are on top of the world. You decide to cash out and go home and have your wife coat herself in honey and roll around in a pile of $100 bills.

Halfway to the cage, you decide, "Oh, what the heck - one more time" and you go bet it all again and lose it.

So.... how much did you lose? Yes, you lose a net total of $10 for the night. But you had over $25k in your hand. So IMO, it's stupid to pretend you only lost one $10 bet.

Yes, this was money you had won, but it doesn't matter. You bet $25,600 on red and it came up black. That's a fact. This is no different at all than if you withdrew $25,600 from your bank account and went and bet it on red.

If you can afford to lose that money and don't care, then that's fine... go for it. But don't fool yourself and pretend you only lost $10.

SirFWALGMan 10-25-05 05:14 AM

Semantics

Ok. I agree. I will have lost $300. However, I will have risked only $5 of my bankroll for an experiment and possibly a nice, huge, gain. It is a gamble. In a sense it is less of one than one might think since I have done it twice before with positive results.. still, I would agree it is slightly better odds than red. Its alot better than black 17 though.

BlibbityBlabbity 10-25-05 07:58 AM

Car payment ...OK....MORTGAGE in Boston = $300 dollars??? That a really nice cardboard box?

Are you in Boston? I live out in Marlboro...

Talking Poker 10-25-05 12:02 PM

Wait.... $5? Aren't you already in for $15 and counting? You said you had played 3 MTTs, but you didn't say what the buy-ins were.

SirFWALGMan 10-25-05 12:09 PM

Anyways..

I am playing MTTs anyways. I do not consider any loses or wins under $300 as part of loses or wins in this experiment. I want to play the MTTs because I have been doing well in them. Even if I was not earmarking one of these for my experiment I would be playing them.

SirFWALGMan 10-25-05 12:10 PM

Cool Man!

I am just outside of Boston, right by RT90, and yes, $300 buys you a SMALL cardboard box in this state! You ever go to Foxwoods and play Poker? I really need to play live!

2Tone 10-25-05 12:11 PM

Now there's a fine idea

I know what I'm doing this weekend.

ChipFish 10-25-05 04:26 PM

I wonder if $5 bills would suffice?
Probably not :(

Talking Poker 10-25-05 04:54 PM

Depends entirely on how hot the lady in question is.

ChipFish 10-25-05 05:36 PM

Probably not then. :(

SirFWALGMan 10-25-05 06:04 PM

Not Enough Boys

She may be homely but she has more culture than all of you put together.. it would definatly take $1000 bills at least!

ChipFish 10-25-05 06:27 PM

My offer still stands to buy a % of your tilt. :)

SirFWALGMan 10-26-05 10:09 AM

Day2: Still Working it

Still trying to score in an MTT. It was easier when I wasnt trying. Ha! Ran up against some monster hands last night. AK vs AA and stuff like that. My AA got cracked by AJ s00ted too. I would have scored in that MTT if my AA stood up. It was a rebuy, and 4 people went in vs my AA, I think I had 3rd best hand at the end.. oh well. whatcha gonna do.

While I am doing this I think TP should scope out the 30/60 for a couple hours on Titan. Give the rundown. Let us all know how good the players there are. Just watch a game for an hour or something.

Talking Poker 10-26-05 12:44 PM

Somehow I don't picture myslef watching without playing for more than about 5 minutes. I'll take a look...

Ummmm.... The highest game I see going right now is 5/10.

SirFWALGMan 10-26-05 02:22 PM

Ya..

Thats why the sharks stay away I guess.. try tonight sometime. There is usually a 30/60 going for a while.. I have only ever seen one going at a time. I swear to you though, I think you might enjoy yourself.

SirFWALGMan 10-27-05 02:01 AM

Closer..

Well after two nights of no money, I hit a 9th place finish in the 1K. It did not pay much but it felt good. Still looking for the big one. I also scored $100 playing 1/2 limit so that was nice.

Still waiting for TPs scouting report. I expect him to say "WEAK! WEAK! WEAK! I love it!" but we will see.

Tony Cheval 10-27-05 02:21 AM

You too huh? I've turned $50 into $115.75 so far at Titan, good hands + soft players = dance all night. :D

SirFWALGMan 10-27-05 10:30 AM

A friend..

A friend of mine who is a much better limit (all around?) player than I am has taken $40 and turned it into over 2K twice so far. :)

Talking Poker 10-27-05 12:28 PM

Twice? How did he get from $2000 back to $40 in between tries? Don't tell me he cashed out $1960 to leave himself with just $40, because that seems a bit silly...

PShabi 10-27-05 01:14 PM

Come on TP!

To understand a SWA, you have to think like a SWA.

What he means is, he took a $40 deposit, turned it into 2k, lost it all, and then did it again.

He won 2k twice!

Reel Deal 10-27-05 04:00 PM

I'm on the brink of turning $25 into $1000... but I won't be losing it anytime soon.
