Another recommendation

It's not necessarily a new title, and I know there's some controversy about how accurate it is, but "The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King: Inside the Richest Poker Game of All Time," Michael Craig's account of the Andy Beal games is fascinating. I'm racing through it, and can't wait to finish it tonight.

Cash Games - Small Stakes Hold'em (Miller, Sklansky et. al.)
Tourneys - Harrington on Hold'em (v.II due soon)
Mental approach - Zen and the Art of Poker (Larry Philips)
Narrative - Big Deal (Anthony Holden)

Edit: Daniel N's section of Super System II on 2-7 triple draw is pure gold.

I really hope this is tongue-in-cheek. Hellmuth's book is pretty much useless crap.

Kurn 06-07-05 04:02 PM

Oh, man. No offense, but people who follow the advice in his book are pure unadulterated ATMs.

I've read the first three on your list and would agree with you on all accounts. The Psychology of Poker is a decent option for Mental Approach too though - definitely worth reading.

SSHE is pure gold.

I've got some B&N gift cards so I'm finally gonna get SS2 this week.

I'm playing so damn much, I don't know when i'll read it.

LMAO.

Actually, Kurn, I used his O8 limit section only, and it was just to reinforce how I was playing.

junYUN 06-08-05 06:27 PM

i haven't read his book, but i don't see how helmuth is an ATM

omahilo 06-08-05 10:12 PM

For O8 too bad Miami John wouldnt write a book... he is prolly one of the best O8 players right now.

I've asked for Sklansky's Tournament Poker for Father's Day... I'll let you all know how it is after I read it.

Kurn 06-14-05 11:57 AM

<shrug> my admittedly not-first-hand understanding is that in cash games, that's precisely what he is.
